This is a red work tea towel that I did to see the difference in using 12Wt thread and regular embroidery thread. The sunbonnet design is done in the 12 Wt thread, both in bobbin and top. The lettering was too dense for the 12 Wt thread, and I had to take out and and redo a couple times. I would recommend the thread only on very open designs, and ones especially digitized for heavy thread. I crocheted the edging around the towel to give it a more finished look. The towel was from the Dollar Tree, and they called it flour sack towel, but not of the quality that my mother used.

When I was growing up , all dish towels were made from real flour sacks & that's what I learned to sew & emb. on. Hems 4 towel taught straight stitching, Heat stamped emb. design, usually cross stitching taught u how to emb. AAAWWW good memories u bring *4U

Yes - that is what this reminded me of. Never liked to embroider by hand though.

Where did you get the sunbonnet design? I assume it is from a set of week designs. I have some week designs but I don't think I have any sunbonnet.

KMart has a nice quality flour sack towel. I think it comes in a 2 pack? I love your design. It turned out beautifully and the crocheting around the edge gave it that just right look!;)

Beth, some of the problem might have been the light weight towel - those are really thin and would need extra stablizing - even with redwork - but I am glad that you found what works for you - I love the flour sack towels and try to buy the quality that your mother used, too! Hehehe! *4U
