what is a CD before I try this?

Just darling. Thank you! I have made mug mats with cd's but they have just been round. These are more interesting.

Have only one size in the download, is this correct. I'm new to machine embroidery in the hoop. A little confused and I need a little help.

If you don't want to use a CD consider using round plastic needlework canvas. Then it is definitely washable

These are very cute! But I am confused. The instructions take you through stitching the eyes, nose, beak, and wings, and then you put the lining and backing fabric on and attach hoop again. Then stitch color 8 and final color 9 of satin stitch. To me this is covering up the embroidered face - stitching the lining/backing down over the top part of the potholder. Does it leave an opening to turn the potholder inside out?

When you do this type of ITH project, the backing fabrics always go under the hoop (keep in place with temporary adhesive spray). After you stitch out color 8, you remove the hoop and trim the fabric close to the stitching. Then sew color 9, remove from hoop and your project is done!

Sue I REALLY like your owl and penguin potholders and mug rugs. The potholders are a really nice size for a larger mug rug...I just eliminate the hanger. Wish you would do some other shaped ones in the larger size, like a bunny head, turkey, etc. I'm kinda tired of square and round mug rugs LOL
