Twisted Cording. I needed cording for some projects I had embroidered. I was shown (30+ years ago), how to make twisted cording using your bobbin winder. Needless to say my, "total recall" is almost nil, but I found this tutorial on how to do it and thought some of you might like to learn how, too. This is a perfect way to match the cording to the project. Use up that thread your machine hates and clear out that old stuff, still on wooden spools, you can't bear to part with. So, here's the link and my results.

I couldn't get anything from youtube, but PDF link works fine. Thanks a lot. I have many threads that are too dry and break easily during embroidery. I am sure I will find a good use for them now. This is a good idea and very helpful. I used to do it by hand, but with knitted projects only.

This is a handy bit of info to share. Thanks for that. Many of us probably have some thread that our machines don't like but that we can't quite throw out. Good way to use it up.

I have forgotten about this and I'm glad to see I am not the only one with wooden spools with fantastic thread still on them. Your project came out adorable. Thanks for the reminder. Betty

Interesting technique. I usually use an electric beater with one end knotted to one of the whisks and the other end to a door knob And when doubling it up I use my heaviest scissors to hang in the middle.

I use my electric Drill. Use a hook and place it where the bit normally would be. Everything else I do the same way. Was taught the principle years ago and used to hand twirl it hopefully to speed it up with another person on the other end.

That is also how my Dad showed us to do it when we were kids, though it may have been a hand drill at that time.

Interesting idea - beats the "by hand" method. Thanks for the link. Nice biscornu btw!

The cording is great done that way. Once I saw my dad use his drill and vice to twist stainless steel rods together and thought to try my bobbin winder to make cording. Had forgotten about this technique until you posted.
