I know that this has nothing to do with sewing but I just wanted to show you the Thomas the Tank Engine cake that my daughter made. It broke my heart when it was cut!!!!

You have all been so kind with your comments. We did not make the cake but bought mainly maderia cakes and a type of swiss roll. It was all assembled and then frozen overnight before icing. We bought 'plastic' icing and coloured it with 'gel' food colouring. The picture does not do it justice. Thank you all for looking. *4 all.

Wow, what an eye for detail! I'm glad someone will go to all of this trouble to have it devoured! I wish that I had 1/2 her talent.;)

I always in awe of people who can decorate cakes that are so good, it is a craft in itself. This year is the 100th birthday of Rev W Awdry. My grandson had a ride on the steam train at Tallyllyn and saw the museum which contains the office/study that the Thomas books were written in. Hpoe your grandchildren enjoyed their special cake

Thank you for this information. I also loved the Thomas books when I was little. The twins have most of the books, DVD's and a wonderful train track with Thomas and his friends.

Very nice job - too bad you cut it - but then if you didn't - there would be one small child that would be upset - you can always make another. Hehehe!

She put a lot of details on it. Must have made the birthday extra special. Do you know how long it took her to assemble it?

airyfairy by airyfairy 10 Nov 2011

It took 2 whole evenings. Colouring the icing was the worst job. My claim to fame were the wheels.
