89 y.o. MIL is always saying not to buy her anything so it is very difficult to buy gifts for her because she has absolutely no interests other than doing crosswords all day. She just won't use anything we give her, (for example: 3 years ago I knitted her a beautiful cardigan and she has never worn it), so we usually buy her chocolates, which, being her health carer I'm not really happy about. Anyway, her favourite colour is green, with lemon a close second, so what better than a bookmark for her crossword book? (of course I'll make her a special dinner and a sweet desert for a treat and I have another FSL gift drying). The design was originally from Sick but I changed it and added the word down the bookmark, (Mum is spelt with a "U" in Aust.) I trimmed the cup, rose & petals with gold metallic instead of the black originally on the design and added a loop at the top so i could attach ribbon. The finished size is 6 3/8" x 1 7/8" and it was 29,573 stitches. Thanks for peeking, hugs n roses, M

I stitched this up last night. I like yours better. :) How did you add the loop?

Thank you, that is a lovely compliment to say that. I added the loop & the text using Embird Studio. hugs n roses, M

I recognized the design. I love the special touches you did to it. Homemade gifts are always the best I have thought. *4U ><>

Meg, who wouldn't adore this bookmark - it is lovely - great work - I love that you changed it to suit you - I really like the gold outline rather than the black - it took on a touch of class - great work - I adore bookmarks. Hehehe! *4U

Thanks Shirlene, I too love the FSL bookmarks but can't help myself, I have to try and "improve" on some of them. LOL! I love your new bowl but will comment on it tomorrow (later today) I'm off to bed at 2-25am, been recolouring the Pansy bookmark to make for my Sis, but i must get some sleep. cheerio for now, hugs n roses, M

Well, I think it is great - when you can improve them. No worries - you will get it - another day. Have a great nights rest.

meganne it's wonderful, funny I see myself n your mil 15 yrs down the road. I've always been an avid crossword puzzler( it relaxes me) always have 1 in my purse for waiting rms. It keeps the mind active. Since I embroid. now puzzles have taken a back seat but 1 day who knows bookmark is beautiful *4U

Heavens I hope you never become that inactive it's truly not good for anyone. Every day I have to perform tough love & make MIL exercise otherwise she will sit in one spot from 7 am til dark, every day, & only get up for loo breaks. Before she came to live with us she hadn't left her house in 5 years & could barely walk, now she comes shopping with my Sis and me & I think i've extended her life by being firm with her, she even stands up straighter & Doc gave her A-1 rating at recent health check. (i suppose i should mention DH & i have only been together 4yrs & Mum has been with us now for 3) Some honeymoon, eh? LOL! hugs n roses, M

So sweet Meganne. We have mum's in NZ too. You are lucky to be able to change patterns. The colours on this are lovely. Especially the gold, it is so much gentler than black.

Thanks Jasanne, the gold actually looks better than the photo shows it and the gold ribbon is metallic too. hugs n roses, M

We have Mums too Meganne but, whatever, all Mums, Moms, are loved & cherished. You have got over a difficult dilemma with a lovely gift your MIL.

That is N.London isn't it Meganne? We live approx. 70 miles (sorry no idea about distance in k's) from London in the Cambridgeshire Fens.

I remember seeing the train station on the 'Tube' listing when I was in London (1977). It was at far reaches of the map but, worse luck, I didn't get there. You're not alone, I still work in Imperial too, just can't visualise anything in metric even after 40 years since it came in here. Only thing i mastered is dollars and cents! LOL! hugs, M

Look after the pence & the pounds will look after themselves. Did you ever hear your Mum say that Meganne?

I love the gold outline instead of the black, which so often makes it appear harsh. Good idea to give a bookmark. Hope she'll be pleased with this one.
