These napkins are really nice Chris. Great designs. How long did it take to sew the napkins on your serger? This is a great idea. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Betty, they only took about a minute to sew around the edges. I did the actual designs first then trimmed the sides in the Overlocker. Love Chris
These are so pretty. I may have to make some of these.
They look so nice, like all your work.
Last time I also did not find the booklet (dl it from the brother-website ;o). After 3x trying I went to the machine-shop with my brother-overlocker and they also failed in the 1st attempt but then it worked :-)
Greetings, Bettina
You did a great job with your napkins!! I too have had the serger problem. I was trying to hurry over the weekend to get a project done before going to a family reunion. Haste makes waste!!! My serger came unthreaded and for the life of me, I cannot get it to work again. If I could find the book, that would probably help. But I loaned the serger and book and think that I only got the serger back again. :(
I know you have too thread the second spool from the right first! Then I notice there is an extra piece down in the front of mine! I now can do it blindfold! Good luck with yours. Love Chris
What does the !@#$*& mean???? (heehee) Been there and I know what it means. Very pretty.
2 hours - it took me 2 weeks. I bought it used and it had 2 severe problems that prevented me from a proper threading! I ended up taking it to the guy to find out I did it right! Worth the $$$
Good for you - I knew my problem was a simple one. So glad you got yours all worked out. Love Chris
Chris, all of your napkins look fantastic. Glad you got your serger working again for you. I seldom have to thread from scratch either, I simply just tie new color on and pull it through. Hate when I have to do it from scratch tho but it doesn't have me panicking now like it used too:) hugs, Charlotte
Very pretty napkins to use at your luncheon....the more I see the more I want to come......lol......the 3 heart designs are my favorites......
How very pretty! I have trained my very willing husband and now when I scream like a banshee he comes and threads my serger for me!!! :)
Thanks Terri - Trevor just leaves it to me! He wouldn't know where to start! I just left him to his painting yesterday. My walls only need another coat and then I can start organising the room. Love Chris
Thanks Terri - Trevor just leaves it to me! He wouldn't know where to start! Love Chris
Beautiful - and I struggle with my serger too. I do have a CD for it now, but have not even bothered to look at it. I just hope that I do not have to rethread it soon. LOL But, these are very special for your luncheon. What fabric did you use?
Thanks Beth - I thought I had a CD too, but that's somewhere in one of the cupboards. Once I get into my new sewing room I'll have to put everything back where they belong.
The fabric is a medium weight cotton with a soft almost suede like top. The designs sewed out so well and of course once the overlocker was going it just breezed through. Love Chris
Beautiful work and wish I was attending your luncheon. Can't wait to see your table dressed in all your lovely things you're making!!
My serger is old and I haven't a clue it it works now, but it makes a super duper 'thread stand'. LOL
Thanks Maryann - get it out and have a look at it. Once threaded properly they work great! Love Chris
Wonderful and great planning early- should be a great luncheon.
Chris, these are soooo festive!! One day, when I have more time and feel adventurous (haha!) - I will dig out my serger - and, set it up for use! To me, that is the worse part - setting it up. Once it is up and working - it is terrific! The key is to have a spot to stay setup!! Hugs, Laura*
Thanks Laura - yes, I agree with you. I have an extended part of my Horn cabinet that houses the overlocker. So it's great to use there. Love Chris
Xquisite work Chris! They will be very lucky ladies to use these. I especially like the two hearts one, but they are all gorgeous. HNR, Meg
Very pretty, the designs you picked are great and your "ladies" will love them, thanks for sharing.
Chris so glad that you managed to thread your overlocker. I have a friend that comes to me to thread hers. Pity you are so far.
Love your napkins, they look great. Hugs Yvonne
Thanks Yvonne - I'm just so glad I know how to do it now - can't believe I wasn't pushing this metal clip down to align the 2 holes. I won't ever forget that again as long as I live! Love Chris
P.S. Good on you helping your friend out with that problem.
I love the red and white theme. It is going to be a beautiful luncheon as always. Thanks for posting, looking forward to seeing what else you make for that day. Hugs Lynn.
Thanks Lynn - I hope it all turns out beautifully on the day. Red, green and gold this year. Love Chris
Some tips for threading.1. Get yourself some thread wax. 2. small crochet hook , helps grap the thread is small areas.
Thanks for your help. I use long handled tweezers I got with the machine. Works a treat. I never thought of using wax - I'll keep that in my memory bank. Love Chris
wow your ladies are sure lucky with all the goodies you have made for them.............soozie
Chris, lovely work as usual. The ladies luncheon gifts are accumulating nicely. I am glad you got your overlocker threaded - I still haven't figured out my Mother's or if I have everything to make it work.
And thanks for the design info - it is always nice to have that included.
Thanks Shirlene - LOL! It always helps to find the BOOK with the instructions in it. Because my rooms are being swapped over there is "stuff" everywhere. I know what Meganne feels like!!!! Another clue for you is to look it up on YOUTUBE! You can find anything on there!
I always put where the designs come from, if possible. Someone may want that very same design. Love Chris
thanks dear - if I feel up to it - I might take some lessons this fall or winter. glad that you do that - I do as well - so much easier to answer questions and the more info you give the less questions you have to answer.
Chris you always produce such lovely work. My tip for threading a overlocker is when you want to rethread DONT take the spools of thread off. Cut the thread one by one from each spool near the spool of thread, tie a small knot to join in the next colour. Do this until all new threads are in place. Then slowly stitch on scrap checking until the needle thread knot appears, stop and cut and rethread the needle. This is one of those times it would be so easy to show you and hard to describe. Good luck next time with the rethread
Thanks for that Caroline, I've found that out by one of the other Cuties. Thanks for your kind comments. Love Chris
i love the red and white and never to early to start on xmas things i have almost finished all my gifts for the grandkids i have ten of them,i get a caal from my friend aleast once a month to rethread her overlocker if i dont i think it will end up in the bin lol
Good for you - it never hurts to be ready, does it and you must be a wonderful friend to go and re-thread the overlocker for her. Love Chris
lol - have had serger threading issues also. Mine is old and a wish to have a self threading one next . This set of napkins are gorgeous. You will have a well set table.
Ha ha ha! I know what you mean - I've had a look at the self threading ones and boy are they expensive!!! Thanks for commenting. Love Chris
Wowwwwwwwwwww Chris these look great. Nothing like being prepared eh. Miserable day here too. We will be trying to cut sugarcane to-morrow. The rain is good for the cane we have just planted but not good weather for cutting. Aw well, we can't have it both ways. Hugs Marg
Thanks Marg - I like to be prepared. Someone from church has given me 2 panels that someone dropped off at the Op Shop and of course they said - Oh! Chris loves doing that sort of thing!!!! - I do too! So they are sitting here amongst the rest of the stuff. I'm relocating my sewing room to the master bedroom (upstairs). We've had the cable man out on Wednesday and all is ready. Trevor has been painting the room today, but he said he's getting too old for this and knocked off work about 3.00pm. He'll have a go tomorrow. I can't wait to relocate. It's a much bigger room than the one I'm in. Love Chris
Chris, they are beautiful. The white on red is always eye catching - that's what I love about Christmas sewing. You sure are early. Every year I look forward to what you are doing for your ladies luncheon. Great start this year!
As for threading your overlocker: when I change colours I always knot threads together, set the tension to zero and pull them through - only have to rethread the needles and remember to set the tension back to their usual setting, which I tend to forget when in a hurry.
Thanks Martine - I love the red and white too. I found that out watching a video - I always thought you weren't supposed to thread a knot through the needle, but you can when using the overlocker. Thanks for the information. Love Chris
You don't pull the knot through the needle, stop just before it reaches the needles, cut the knot and rethread the needles only.
Yes, I realised what I said after I typed it. I wouldn't be able to get a knot through the eye. So I will cut it off and just thread the needle. Thanks for your help. Love Chris
