yes it really was fast, I cut my own jelly roll so it took a little longer than if I bought them but it is much cheaper for me since I buy my material usually for $2 yrd

clawton by clawton 25 Jul 2011

I also was thinking about pulling out scraps to make the strips. The jelly rolls can be pretty expensive.

Was that part of the YouTube video where they were having races to see who could get a jelly roll quilt done the fastest? That was an interesting video. Nice quilt too. You could have a great time quilting that now.

I really like it and can't believe how fast you did it. I don't think I understand how to do it. I understand that you miter the ends when you sew all the strips end to end but then I get lost. I tried to watch the video but my computer was on the blink.

Yes, miter and join all the ends at random, then cut 18" from the first one and toss (or add to stash). This makes the strips more random.
Then sew the two ends right sides together of the verrry long strip. Cut apart when you get to the end and repeat again and again. Easy peasy, and really gives great results.

Thanks! Maybe I will try it.

Looks good. Her machine just must be faster. That is still pretty quick time you made yours in. A serger would probably make quick work of one of these types quilts.

well I must be honest and say I didn't run mine at full throttle, when I tried the table I was on shook the entire machine and couldn't see where the material was so had to slow down.
thank you

These quilts are so much fun to make. It's fun to see the finished top when you're done it's always a surprise. I let my 3 year old grandaughter mix up the strips then started sewing. I'll post it when I get it off the frame.

I mixed my stripes up too, but I forgot to cut the first 18 inches off well after I made the first stitch I cut 9 inches off LOL
