It's a little more complicated than this as you can have cool shades of reds and yellows and warm shades of blues and greens depending on the colours chosen to add to the base (Primary) coulours: red, green & blue.
Have you ever put together two shades of red and wondered why one looked fantastic with the outfit you were wearing and the other one looked revolting?
Chances are one was a cool (Blueish) red while the other was a warm (orange-ish) colour.
The same principle applies across the whole spectrum.
I'd like to elaborate more on this, so I will take this discussion into community so I can post a picture to help everyone.

Meg, thank you for your support. You are absolutely right. All colors have a broad spectrum. But that is so complicated that it loses the overview. I reduced it to the basic and the simplest, so that everyone understands. And so one can remember the most important and very easy. This image should be only a little guidance, and indeed for the moments where the materials are already prepared for sewing. The moment is quite difficult at the same time are still studying the colors. But I'm glad when I have awakened the interest in such a way that you would like to deepen this topic. I wish you much luck and I am looking forward to your entries. Love Greetings Hilde
Hilde thank you for this explanation and yes, you are not the only one with this problem I think many of us have the same problem, but this will be a great help!!!!
There are so many designs and web sites that have atrocious colors and we are left to basically fend for ourselves TY for your post.

Thank you for all your help on the colours, I just spent all last night trying to decide on the right colours for a design I want to do. There colour choices had a couple of choices and their colours of a particular colour just through me out as the colour that was called for was not matching the colour name but the numbers did and so it got all confusing so I left it as when I get to it I will do three samples in all the colours that are coming up and then I will choose. Your chart is going to help me so much, thanks for helping.
As I see, am not only with the problem. Yes, the colours sometimes prepare properly brainwork! Gr.Hilde
A delightfully simple explanation, Thank you!! I start to study colours and then get put off by the deep theory that is often put forward. You have given me simple rules that will stick with me when choosing. Thank you for the time you have spent learning the subject and thank you for sharing your knowledge.
I love your work and have used some of the designs you have put up in Designs for Cuties. This week I used one of your Elegant Buttonholes. Delightful!) I admire your talent and your generosity!
Many thanks and warmest wishes, Bev.
I am happy if this info for others are also rich in the alternative. Gr. Hilde
