When my daughter asked if I would put Victoria's name on her back pack, I said I don't think the name would fit yet be large enough, but maybe her initials...but I was cringing at the thought. I had not done anything like that, well except the beanbag chair...but even that is not like a BACKPACK! Then when I saw it with the double tripple set of stripes right where the initials should be...I was thinking....HOW MANY NEEDLES WILL I BREAK DOING THIS, HOW WILL I HOOP IT.... But to my surprise it hooped really easy and was stiff enough I knew it would not need stablizer. Based on all I read here yesterday about the need to change needles often. I put a new needle and started the stitching. Now I chose a light pink thinking it would show pretty good....NOT...so did it again over the pink with a dark turquoise and the effect which I am sad to say does not show well in the pictures, is really cool. Anyway, I am no longer afraid of a backpack, as long as I can get it somehow into the hoop. The design stitches in about 10 minutes, so fast too, unfortunatly I don't have any idea where I got the font, but cool for a kid. Peggy

Peggy, the color combo and the size you chose looks outstanding on the backpack. What lovely work! It's a much appreciated gift for your daughter I'm sure too. What size needles did you use? I'd learned in a class that the titanium needles are much longer lasting. Also, for items you may not be able to hoop the hooped sticky stabilizers work wonders.

I still can't imagine how you hooped it, you have a normal machine, not commercial right???

GREAT job!!

Peggy, super job and Victoria should be pleased and will have everyone asking how she got her initials on her backpack and she will have to take orders for you - Hehehe! Great work. *4U

She is pretty easy to please, hopefully she will stay that way. I can't believe how worried I was about doing the backpack... It was so easy and the needle went through it like hot knife through butter. That is why I picked that design, I was afraid of the others, but they would have been fine. Peggy

This looks just wonderful. The font looks like Swirls from Designsinstitches, which was their free font a while ago. They showed it done in variegated thread, quite similar effect to yours. Great job, great "save" which made it so much better than the original intent. Hugs and a * for everyone, Lois

Lois, yep that is where the font came from, I've been racking my brain...thanks. It is what I like to call a happy accident.....Peggy

Your backpack looks great! My granddaughters always want me to do their backpacks. Instead of hooping them I hoop sticky stablizer and then place the packpack on it without hooping. So far it has worked every time.

Thanks, I thought about that, but was afraid I would pull it up as I had to keep the rest of the back pack at a 90 degree angle from the flap. I can be such a clutz! I got it last night and school started for her today....so no time to get another if I messed it up. Peggy

I enlarged the photo, I can see what you mean about the colors, maybe more in my imagination than on the screen, but I've done this and know what you mean. Isn't it great when something you thought was going to be very hard comes out good and wasn't as hard as you thought? Good job!! Hugs, Marji

I am happy with the way it turned out and like the font, as she is not a little girl anymore.
