Not embroidery! But I have been making Tote Bags from oilcloth. As you can see the handles have torn away where they are sewn to the bag. Anyone got any ideas on how to attach handles to prevent this?

Make your handles long enough to wrap around the bottom of the tote bag..they can be stitched right to the tote bag...it eliminates pull at the handle point...also, if using oilcloth, lengthen your stitch so it doesn't perforate the oilcloth as much and weaken it.

I sew my handles on by sewing a square and a cross in the centre of the square. about three times over
But I have never used oilcloth!!

Hope this helps

This is very hard to see - can you get a better picture - so we can assist you. Perhaps stitching a cross the handle at the base several times or in a triangle could help.

No, the material is tearing down the side of the handle. So stuck for answers
