I learned these 2 techniques at a club/class at my dealer. Gerry was asking about trapunto, there is a close-up in her question. Both techniques are very easy to do.

This is very interesting. I guess that the butterflies are painted. I like this a lot.

The butterflys are shadow applique. The colored fabric is sandwiched, right side up, between the top fabric and the stabilizer. Then trim away the excess colored fabric.
