Thinking of Shirlene's Beautiful Pineapple bowl & doilies (look-a-like hand crochet) this is another example - a greetings postcard made as a likeness to the silk cards sent home by soldiers, to their loved ones, during WW1. I have done very simple embossing around the edge, which doesn't show up well in the picture. The 'flap' design is from Awesome Embroidery through Oregon Patchworks the text from a CD.

Oh Jean - as usual - you have made another very pretty and speical card - I love the way that you are always making them different and special - those postcards that were sent home by the soldiers had to be treasured and loved. *4U

Thanks for that Shirlene but nothing I make can ever surpass the beautiful WW1 originals which were generally hand embroidered, mostly by French women in their homes and then sent to the factories for making into what we know as silk cards. The sentiments behind them can never be copied. But I love making my version for 'special' people in my life & hopefully, will give pleasure to them.

Thank you for sharing them with us - I love them and the whole idea of what they did - back then.
