WE HAVE POWER AT LAST!

Just wanted to let everyone know that we are o.k. Our daughters still don't have power as yet as I write this. Our son and family got power on yesterday.

We have had the worst flooding since 2007 when the Pasha Bulker got beached at Newcastle beach.

Our whole home is unfortunately electric! Dana and Amy at least have gas stoves and can cook. Trevor and I have been having candlelight sandwiches and last night we had a BBQ with some salad items which were still cold. We have lost a bit of food but that's nothing to what a lot of people have had to put up with.

Our beautiful big gum tree has lost a massive branch (it's the tree that our Kookaburras nest in) and there are 8 massive gum trees uprooted in our back reserve. It's been really frightening on the roads as most of the traffic lights have been out! Anyway, we are o.k. and back on line.

Thankyou to all who have prayed for us Cuties in New South Wales. Love Chris

Don't know where my comment (and your answer) went, but I am glad things are slowly going back to normal. I hope Dana will have power too soon.
Lovely puppy!!

Thanks for everyone's thoughts and prayers. I've been with Amy all day and stayed at their house as they had to go to the airport to collect their new baby puppy dog - a mini Groodle ( a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle - she is absolutely gorgeous! As Amy had collected me I stayed at their place and lo and behold at 2.30 their power came on. So I cooked some Spaghetti Bolognaise and put on their first load of washing - she had 5 loads to do! We got to finish 2 and hang them out when Trevor arrived, so I went home with him. Dana and Jason are still without power and they all came over last night for showers etc. This is just the worst storm I've ever been in. I pity the poor people of Queensland when they have their thunderstorms they have rain for days on end.

It's beautiful here now and it looks like our ANZAC DAY (tomorrow) memorial will be held in perfect weather. Trev and Ben will be attending the dawn service. I think I'll have a rest as we were up just after 6.00 this morning under the house pumping out some excess water. Trev then laid 4 loads of sand along the edge of the walls. It's been very tiring, but we are one of the lucky ones.

Once again thanks everyone for your concern, love Chris

Good to hear you are back on the grid. We were very lucky. We had bad leaks in the roof six months ago. I don't mind a big storm, but I objected to having rain on the inside of the back door. The builder rang us to check how it was working/holding up. All was well. Took hubby to the doctor on Wednesday and he wouldn't get into the car in the yard as he said it was like standing on a sponge. He sank and the water came up. So he hoped in once I was on the street.
The roads were very slippery on Tuesday. Normally that much rain (24 hours of solid rain) washes all the gunk out of the bitumen, but for some reason that didn't happen. Roads were dry today. There were evacuations a mile or so away from us where the area is level with the top of the river. Most of houses there are on tall stumps.
Hubby just rang me and the sun is shining at home.

So glad you and family are all good. You don't realize how much you appreciate the electricity until you don't have it huh?
It all looked so shocking on telly. Hope that sort of weather is goon for good for all of NSW. Do take care, hugs Kerry..

I was pleased to hear you are OK. Have been there done that 2 1/2 days with no power thing. Glad to hear the kookaburra's tree survived reasonably well. It was hard to believe you were having all that bad weather up there, when we had such beautiful calm warm sunny days down here in Tassie. What a mess to clean up. I am feeling so sorry for those who had water through their houses. I saw some on TV last night. Mud everywhere. You will be able to enjoy a lovely hot cut of tea now with your sandwiches. Hugs Shirley

Very romantic of you Chris, I think they call that getting back to basics! But good to hear that all is well and what's a little food when it could have been a lot worse.

Good to hear the worst is over and it is time for cleanup. It is sad about the Gum trees, is the nest affected and will your tree survive?

My heart goes out to you. It is so scary to live through a nasty storm like this and to see the damage it has caused. I'm so grateful you are safe. I think you made the best of it during meals. I love the thought of sandwiches by candle light.

Positive thoughts coming your way Chris. When we had huge storms 18 months ago Rosie came up to us as I use bottled gas to cook on and we have a solid fuel fire. Had to keep the fire lowish though as now power to work the heating. They are still working on the cables that caused the problems when they were damaged in the winds and town still has many signs of the loss of trees. We also found our phone was affected, mobiles too as no power BUT our 60 yr old dial phone still worked. Hope all is well and take care
