I just made a blue jeans skirt for my granddaughter's 11th birthday gift. Made it from Grampa's old jeans. Turned out great! I even used a pattern I've had since sewing for her mother as a child.
An idea for the jeans look up June Tailor on You Tube she has tutorial using a round ruler/template to make a quilt, it's a different idea.. Look forward to what you come up with. Marian
Cannot wait to see what you do with your finds. I haven't Ben to a jumble sale since I was a child.
Its years since I went to a Jumble Sale. What fun they were and what bargains. The first of your challenges to yourself is excellent, so now Iook forwards to seeing what you do with the rest of the fabric. Did your daughter just help you with your purchase or make some of her own?
A tips. Google recycling jeans or denim. You get lots of ideas. Happy stitching
Wow! What wonderful finds. I wish I could find such good deals at our yard/garage sales. Most people are trying to make money when they have sales, not get rid of unwanted items. I did, however, just pick up 5 yards of linen toweling at the local thrift shop for $6 and smiled all the way home. Now to make and decorate towels.
That was a great buy. A friend of mine gets some great fabric from yard sales and is kind enough to bring it to me when she visits UK.
What is a jumble sale? Is it what we (USA) call a garage or yard sale?
People donate clothes books and bric-a-brac that they don't want and other people buy it. Usually for Church funds or similar. Every village used to have them in England, but now we have charity shops.
I guess we don't have them here, or at least not where I live. We have Salvation Army and Goodwill and other similar shops where people donate their unwanted items and churches have rummage sales as well.
Jumble sales are sometimes called rummage sales here. Charity shops are much more common now.
I'm seeing a quilt of brights and black squares! Maybe no or very little embroidery. Have you seen purses and tote bags made from old jeans?(Try Googling it.)
It sounds like there will be a lot of fun going on in your house. I love finding large pieces of fabric to play with. It will be fun to see what you do with the jeans, t-shirt, dress and curtains. You have made my mind start to swirl with ideas.
Good luck with it all, I am sure you will come up with some interesting projects. Love Chris
I am glad I am not the only one ! I am a great believer in recycling!
