Hello cuties. Have any of you had the need to load pre 2006 Amazing Designs software on a different computer recently? I just acquired a used XP computer to replace my XP computer that died, so that I could load and use my 5 Amazing Designs software programs onto it, and got an error message when I tried to Web Register my programs to activate the programs on my computer. I contacted Amazing Designs and was told that as of last April they now no longer provide activation codes to allow you to register and open the software up on your computer! The Customer Support person said they used to go to a website to get the activation codes and now that website has "disappeared" and they do not know anyone to contact to get a code! Sounded a bit strange to me. Great Notions was involved in the licensing of these products. I own 5 of them (Smart Sizer Platinum, Click'N Stitch with Applique, Lettering Pro Plus, Embroidery Links and Fast Fills), and cannot afford to purchase their new software of these programs. I also do not feel it is ethical or appropriate for them to expect me to either! My original software was $1500 many years ago. Any suggestions of what I might be able to do or someone to contact will be appreciated. Thank you!

Hi All Raggedy...I Googled Amazing Designs and found that it is a registered trade mark of Tacony Corporation..the CEO is Keith Tacony...their U.S. Headquarters address is 1760 Gilsinn Lane, Fenton, MO 63026...phone: 636-349-3000. Tacony also owns BabyLock and several other companies...here is link to their Corporate site...try e-mailing Keith at k.tacony@tacony.com
I have e-mailed other Tacony employees by using first name initial then dot then @ tacony.com Usually corporate e-mails are very consistent addresses...you might score....Keep us posted...there is also a "contact me" on their website...but I would try going right to the top...perhaps even a phone call could get you to the CEO

Dear dragonflyer; Thank you so much for the information. Wow, are you resourceful! I am so impressed and I am so taken back by your generosity and kindness to take your personal time to research out this information for me. I will try contacting Keith. Perhaps he will have a listening ear and caring heart and can help me out with a solution for how I can load my software. This whole scenario has me quite sad. Thank you dear cutie!

Dear AllRaggedy...it is my pleasure...I only hope that you are able to find some resolve and get your software back up and running...perhaps by being a squeaky wheel at the top will help...keep us posted...Hugs &Smiles...

You are probably not the only person in this boat. I guess it's the new way to make more money. I ran into the same problem with my Magic Box when I got my new computer. So I kept my old computer just so I could use the Magic Box. It really makes me angry that they do this.

Yes, you are correct pennyhal2. I am sure I am not the only one in this boat. I want to make the ones also in my boat to be aware of the problem, and to tell them to baby those computers of theirs that are still working with the programs! I would have kept my old computer to run the programs also if it had not overheated and crashed. I purchased a new/used XP computer just to reload this software on, and now cannot do so. Ugh! Thank you for your comment and input.

See if you can find out who the president of the company is and e-mail direct to the office...or call the office of the president...I have had some success going right to the top...

Thank you for your suggestion dragonflyer. I will try to do some research and see if I can get a direct link to the office of the president of the company. The boss of the customer service lady that I spoke to called me back today. She was of no help at all though, and basically said I would just have to buy new software. I would never support the same company that is treating loyal customers this way though and repurchase their new software, even if it was affordable to me. It is a matter of principal.

Amen to that....I hope you can get to the president...

Hi Helen; I have had to do the same on some software programs in the past also, but they were not expensive either. If the embroidery programs were not that expensive I would swallow the bullet and just repurchase them, but that is not the case. I am also now retired on a fixed income. Thank you for your comment. It is nice to be able to vent to an embroidery friend who understands.

I still have some Amazing Designs software on an older XP computer and I would be in the same boat if I had to re-install. I always thought it was wrong the way you had to just about fight them for an activation code to re-install the software.
Hope you have success,
Helen

Yes, Helen, I agree. The software companies just want the consumers to keep buying new software. It is a real sin, in my opinion, and there should be a way to control that from happening. I feel when one pays hard earned money for a product, they should be able to use it as long as they want to, as they paid for the right to do so. All 5 of my products are registered with Amazing Designs, with my current name, address, and email and they never even sent out a notice that they would be discontinuing issuing activation codes. Now I own an XP computer that I just bought for the purpose of reinstalling my embroidery software on, that I now cannot use for that! Frustrating!

Sorry Raggedy, I can't help you I'm afraid. Have you thought of approaching your local ombudsmen to help you out? Otherwise I'd just keep on trying to contact someone in authority at the Amazing Designs or Great Notions companies who will go to bat for you, so to speak. Good luck and I hope someone on here knows more about it. Love Chris, Newcastle, Australia.

Thank you Chris for your input and suggestions. I have a call into a higher authority at Amazing Designs, than the customer service agent I spoke to. Hopefully they will return my call with some suggestions that will help. Blessings to you for taking the time to respond to my frustrating plea for help. Hugs, Sharon
