I hope this is in the right spot sewing but really it works for any cutting you do. I was trying to cut my fabric when I realized very quickly that my rotary cutting blade is getting dull..............sigh I am not able to run to the store so I tried this! It works really well & I know that I will be picking up another blade anyway but @least now this one is much sharper then it was when I tried to cut my fabric today!

Hi, You have really useful tips for us. Thank you.

This was actually on a show yesterday!!! It works!!! There were other uses for aluminum foil as well. Putting foil on ironing board under all padding with the shinny side up cutes ironing time in half. Putting 4 thicknesses under the legs of furniture (wrapping the excess up around the legs) makes the furniture slide without much effort one carpet...make sure the dull side of foil is exposed. Crumpling foil up in a ball makes an excellent pot scratcher for cooked on food removal. Sure opened my eyes...I only used it for the usual things like covering food in a bowl! Thanks for sharing!

Many of you have inquired about the tin foil I use to cut this.I have just realized that some of you call it Aluminum Foil lol such a mouthful but we just call it tin foil. I use the one that says the strong one since we have different thicknesses of foil. If you have thin in the cupboard just layer your folds a bit more . I folded 6-8 times but I didn't count till I was asked the thinner it is the more you fold the thicker it is the less you need to fold. I hope this helps

Wow! Thanks! I just logged on ( I have been busy the last couple of days ).
This is very timely as I almost purchased new pinking shears when I went to Fabricland the other day..(I forgot :-)..whew! ) My heavy foil is the one with the silicone on one side...would this work as well I wonder??
Thanks again, Hugs & **, Nadyne

I am not familiar with the tin foil that has a silicone side to it? Sorry. The kind I use is the kind that says best for Barbequing

I, for one, have been enlightened. I am assuming this is aluminium foil? If so, I need to try this on my kitchen scissors. I put my old scissors in the kitchen, to cut up green onions.

thank you so much for kindley passing on this fantastic but oh so simple idea. Sometimes because we do a certain thing we automatically think that others know about it as well and it is simply not allways the case as this has proven. again many thanks

Oh thanks for that hint. Mum has not long gotten into doing something patchwork and uses a rotary and she had mentioned that hers weren't cutting as well as they used to. I'll let her know of this trick . THANKS

Oh Katmug, that sounds so sweet. I miss my mom and wish a thousand times, I had learned about machine embroidery while she was still alive. She would have been fascinated, I'm sure. She made Barbie doll clothes by machine and crochet, for her past time in later years, although her right arm and hand were messed up from a car wreck and it wasn't easy for her to do. I'm glad you have your mom and can share things like this with her.-Toogie

Thanks Toogie ! :( I do feel for you. Mum doesn't have any idea about EMbroidery machines . LOL. But I make her birthday and mothers' day cards and she does appreciate them. She is amazed at how much these machines can do. SO AM I !!!

I've been doing that for years. Save money that you use trying to find someone to sharpen them for you. I use it for my pinking shears and my curved ones. Must try it on my rotarys too. The are really dull.
