When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Right. Good thought. However, there are times when you can't do that. I got the word from the "doctor" yesterday. My machine is all but toast. He said he would not suggest putting any more money into it. Of course, he said a second opinion wouldn't hurt. That means more money to me. So here I sit with the chance of a life time to get most of the designs I could ever use for free and no machine to use them on. I cried a bit last night which only gave me a headache this morning. Started looking around for a used one this morning. NO way I can afford even a cheapo new one right now. (Have to build a new shed! Comes first.) Sorry, just needed to vent a bit. As a friend would say, cry in my beer. But I hate beer. So you guys got stuck with my vent.

I have decided to only look on the bright side here. (RIGHT) Now I have all the time in the world to surf and download and organize. I am not going to cry any more. I am not going to cry any more. (RIGHT)

I know how you feel. When my old emb machine broke two years ago, I just sat and cried. DH thought I had gone mad. With his help and some savings I managed to buy a bottom of the range new machine. It was worth every cent and has given me so much pleasure. I do hope you manage to find another one even if it is second hand.

It's alright to vent, if you hold all that upset in you might just POP! We don't allow that on this site...to messy! lol. Sorry to here your machine is toast. On the bright side you have an honest and reliable dealer/repair person, they could have lied to you, attempted to fix it and left you in the lurch...out the money and a dead machine. I know the brother machine reps around my area are having lots of trade ins and the prices are suppose to be pretty good. If you have time before the end of the year go talk to one...it just could be that you'd hit the deal of a lifetime if they needed to lower their inventory or really wanted a sale before the end of the year. hugs and ****s for you.

So sorry to hear about your machine. I just told my husband this morning that if mine died I would be so upset. I understand how inconvenient timing is for things to break. If you lived around me I would let you come and play on my machine. You would probably be unhappy because it is one of the less expensive (meaning small hoop) that Brother makes. I love my little machine though. We have gone through so many learning experiences together. I would definitely get another Brother (but I haven't tried anything else)...just sticking with what I know :) I hope that you find something in super shape and very reasonable soon. Having an outlet for one's creativity is important to their health! It should be a medical write off :)

I'm thinking about waiting until after Christmas. Might get some good deals from a dealer then. I'm just going to download and sort. And BACKUP. And think I do want a brother. So have a few dealers in this area and about 50 miles away. Just going to have to stay calm and wait. NOT my style at all Thanks for the advise.

What's stopping you from downloading your designs? Go ahead and download into PES format. That will cover most unless you buy a Bernina, then you will need ART. You can convert the PES to almost any other format you may need.

Jerrilyn - I have a Bernina and I only use PES

Sorry, Sarah, of course you are right, some of the Berninas use PES, too.

Sorry about your machine problems but it doesn't stop you dl all the designs. My dealer has a great selection of traded in machines and with the new Brother there are some great deals about of pre loved machines. Brother often has interest free purchases over a set time. I have bought machines from my dealer for others and always have had great buys. By letting the dealer know what you want, how much you have to spend and by asking about deals etc he has happy customers. There are machines for sale on ebay but they come with no warranty and no history. (My dealer has a few that have been abandoned with him that were sold as 'lightly used' when really they were 'worn out' and 'beyond repair' My dealer lives 2plus hours one way away but the service is excellent and well worth the distance. You will find a great machine but it might take a little effort on your behalf - good luck with the search . PS both my machines were pre loved and have been used uch more by me than the previous owners

They have some on Craigslist that are pretty reasonable...people buy them and then sell because they aren't there "cup of tea" after all...deanna

Go look at used Brothers. They just came out with their new machines and dealers have taken in older models on trade. Often, these are low "mileage."

Keep collecting those reebies. The machine will work out eventually. Meanwhile, vent all you want.

I feel so bad for you. . Seems to always happen at the worst times. check with a dealer there are a lot of deals going on for machines with no interest. You could probably use the finance company they use and get no interest on a machine with a small payment every month. Just a thought. Venting here is fine. We can all sympathize with you. Hope you can find a solution! Suzanne
