TODAY 22ND NOVEMBER - 2 of our baby Kookaburra's have flown out of the nest. A cacophony of noise got me up at 6.20am and sure enough there were two little birds poking their heads out of the nest. The first one flew off to the left, missed the tree branch and landed over our back fence near the Mulberry tree in the back reserve. The second chick landed in a tree in the reserve. There is still one bird in the nest! Mummy, Daddy and siblings from last year are really close by watching them all. It's such a different day from yesterday - cool and slightly overcast. Yeah! I like this weather better than 42C - love Chris

Doesn't take mother nature long to get those babies out and on their own. Suzanne

You know Chris I am just loving seeing this photo of your babies.
I would like to show you where my Kookaburras have made their nest. For sure it is no longer an ants nest. This is Mum who is on her way out after feeding her baby/babies. Don't know how many as yet.
This is her second year of breeding in same place.
We have another ants nest that has Kingfisher's breeding in it...
It is special to see nature at it's best...Thanks for sharing...love Kerry

What a great time of year it is for us in the southern hemisphere. We have a pair of plovers taking it in turns to sit on the two eggs at the base of a hibiscus bush in the garden. They do not build nests just lay their eggs straight on the ground

Yes, I know we have them all over the lake area and at a local golf course where they do the same! The daddy Plovers are very protective of the eggs. Love Chris

Thanks Lynn, it's been good so far. I'm tired, but happy to be home after a long day babysitting Dana's 3 gorgeous children. Love Chris

They certainly do and will get bigger and bigger in the next couple of weeks, but once they leave the nest we don't see them again until next year! Unless, the parent birds come back and have another batch - which they did last year! Love Chris

Firstly Congratulations on 100100 flowers and thanks for a update on the family in your garden. Information from Cuties around the world about life around them is great and has expanded my knowledge no end. Thanks for your Kookaburra info

Thanks so much Caroline. A great milestone! I can't believe how these birds have grown so much in the past 3 weeks. They certainly are cuties. I wish you could hear them - there were 4 adult Kookaburras out there this morning and the noise was so loud it woke us up. Our bedroom is downstairs near the back tree but there is a back deck and the underneath part where I hang my laundry between us and them! Love Chris
