Help please. now i have my much wanted big hoop machine.

it is the Brother V5. I find that thin fabric seems to be insecure in the middle part of the hoop. I tried some anti slip stuff in the hoop . but this seems to have stopped the hoop from moving properly. and has spoiled my designs,
so i wondered if this is a problem with big hoops. or should i be taking the machine back .
Thank you Hugs Pam.

Thank you all for your help, I have stuck at it trying your many suggestions. I have found it needs a thicker stabilizer than my other two machines, the dealer said to only use brother bobbin thread, and I still put a little liner in my hoop. I have just posted some of the first things I have done and you can see they are perfect by a long way.
Thank you all again for your time . Hugs Pam.

....well I am not sure that you must only use Brother Bobbin Thread...I think it is very expensive...a good way for them to make a few bucks...

I know what you are saying. and when I get to know the machine a bit better, I will try again. it seems a bit fussy. and I wanted to be jumping round the room shouting yes yes . but instead i was so disappointed.

Here is a link to the Criswell K Lace website showing how to put the Rubber Shelf Liner on the bottom of the Inner Hoop using Wonder Tape to hold your fabric and stabilizer in the hoop so it doesn't move while you embroider.

This works great especially for large hoops and it dose
hold your fabric tight.

You can leave the Shelf Liner and water soluble double sided Wonder Tape on your hoop all the time.

You can click on each picture to see a close up of it.

I use the rubber shelf liner between the hoop insert & the fabric. It can't drag & distort the design that way. Secure it to the underneath of the insert with double-sided tape & remove the centre of the shelf liner close to the insert so it won't interfere with the stitching area. My large hoop is only 8" x 8". Tighten the hoop screw as much as you can by hand then a slight turn with a small screwdriver. Hope this helps.

How about sticky tear away stabilizer? Or with WS stabilizer I have used masking tape to secure all 4 sides of it to keep it from sagging. Be sure to use the hoop sized as close to the size of the design as well. Hugs. Nan W

try using iron on stabilizer to stop the fabric stretching- also be aware that fabric stretches more across the width than up the length -the bigger the hoop the more the fabric will stretch

I hoop the stabilizer and then do the basting stitch round the design.do this for most items ,But have had trouble with large hoop on brother PR 1000e with wash away, did try a few things, I need to go back and have another go,

HI Pam, I agree with what has been said below. I have the Brother Quattro Innovis Eye 6700D which has a really large hoop and when I first used it I noticed that predicament. I just re-hooped my fabric making sure it was really taut in the hoop. I've been doing what rescuer says recently and not hooping but using my fix stitch to keep the fabric secure in the hoop. It's easier to hoop the stabiliser without the fabric on top sometimes and maybe this might be the best solution to your query. Also you can use those rubber grips on the edges of the hoop - they look like plastic pot holders! I just cut a slim piece to place over the base of the hoop in the four positions, top, bottom, left and right. Good luck with it all, love Chris

Thank you Chris, I will try the basting box I have some them, It was anti slip that I was using as above, that may have caused the hoop not to move properly as I put it around my hoop .

Hmmm, so sorry to hear...perhaps you have a hoop that is defective...not sure...was it a new machine? If your dealer is close and has the same machine available on their floor, I would take my hoop, stabilizer and fabric and try it out using the dealer hoop and then your hoop to see if they are both the same...I have used the thin rubber shelf liner strip along the long side of the hoop on occasion, but only when I am using tulle or organza and need a little extra tightness in the hoop. I would also suggest as Rescuer and Bevintex have that you double up on your stabilizer... My largest frame is 8x12 and I have not experienced any problems with it...what size frame are you using...it is usually the long sides that can give you potential problems with slippage...I have also heard that some use double sided tape to hold the layers more securely...good luck and keep us posted.

My largest hoop for the Babylock Ellegante is 7x11 3/4. I found cutting some long strips of light cut away-or even paper towel- used on all 4 straight edges will help to make those edges hold better.

I never use the anti-slip stuff. I was told it will damage the frames and the machine. I just use different stabilizer. Sometimes I will use more than one layer of stabilizer to make sure the fabric stays were I need it. Also, I find as long as the stabilizer is like a drum, then the design works well and there are no puckers. I often float my fabric on top of the stabilizer. If I do hoop it and it seems unstable I will hoop some of the thin clear stabilizer over the top.

maybe you need a different stabilizer. Does your dealer offer classes?
