Good morning Cuties, I recently received a money card for my birthday. I want to get me a new rotary cutter and was wondering which cutter Cuties like. I have an old Fiskars cutter,it is a 45mm or 65mm. The locking button keeps releasing and makes my blade lock up,and of course, interrupts my cut. I know they have Olfa,Clover and Gingher cutters. Which do you like and what size, 45mm or 60mm ? Thanks for responding. I may go this week-end and shop.-Toogie EDITED-aussiequilter this is the one I have since 2002-It says Limited Lifetime warranty, look toward the bottom of packaging 3rd photo. Do you think if I send them, they'll still warrant them? The blade in the second photo is extended all the way out. When I use it in this position, it snaps closed.I wonder if they have a website I could ask before I send?

Regardless, if I get these fixed or not, I will get another rotary. That will only make me two cutters. Not bad compared to Shirley's 43 scissors!

I have been using an Olfa Deluxe Rotary Cutter with a 45mm bladefor the last 12 years and it has never missed a beat. With this cutter a cover automatically covers the blade when you release the handle so there is less chance of accidents. Would recommend it to anyone as it is also easy on the hands and I have arthritis. However I have not tried one of the new ergonomic cutters so they may be easier on the hands for some people.
Good Luck

I agree, contact Fiskars. I love their products. Wouldn't buy anything else. Forgot. And for blades - Find a Harbor Freight near you. They have tools, and more tools. Also blades for the carpet cutters that fit my rotary. CHEAPO. Love that store. Better than a simple hardware. One of the few women on the planet who loves hardware stores.

I love them too!

I love hardware/lumber stores, too. I didn't realize though, until we were building our house. We would go every Wednesday for supplies, because that was the day we got 10% off our total, for senior citizens. After we got the house done, I still wanted to go there. I think its the 'craft' side of us, that makes the stores so appealing.

I have the same ones you do and I'm not impressed, they perform exactly like yours do and don't think it's worth attempting to send them back. I'm also looking for another pair. Will check out any listings you have. Thanks.

Check out those funny looking Martelli's below. I 'think' I might like them, but you know the old saying,'hard to teach an old dog new tricks'. I don't know if I could get used to it, but it does look like it would be easier on the hands and wrist.

Toogie, did you know fiskars products have a life long guarantee, it you contact them they should give you a freepost address to send them back to be fixed, I did this with 2 pair of my scissors that were 10 years old, and they now work like new

I really like my ergonomic Olfa cutters. The size is dependent on use. The longer the cut or the thicker the fabric, the bigger the blade. the smallest is for curves. I do not lock it in the open position as I tend to not keep track of where my hands are...

The 45 mm is good for general use. My friend who quilts uses both that one and the little one. The big thing to look for is ERGONOMIC - it will look bent. Much easier after you've been at it awhile. Happy shopping.

These aren't those that almost look like a boomerang with a handle extending out from the side, are they? I don't know how people cut with those.

I have a Martinelli and love it. It is a bit different from the others in the way you hold it - works easier for me. I have the 45. I also have the Fiskars 45mm ruler/cutter combo - have not played with it much yet.

These are the ones I would like to see a video of people cutting with these. However do you do it? I need something easy on the hands/wrist, without having to apply too much pressure. Is there a UTube video of it in action?

pcteddyb by pcteddyb 25 Oct 2014

I have bad hands too - part of why I love this one. It is so much easier to control than the fiskars type. Check on the martelli site - I bet they have a video of it.

I clicked on your link here. Then I looked to the upper left side and in small print it said 'Go to Martelli Info Site. When that page came up I clicked on video in the header. It was about a 25 min video but he shows how to hold it and cut.

I love the Kai Rotary Cutter...and their scissors, too...they are "wicked" sharp....I haven't found anything to compare to them...not even Gingher...I use to think Gingher was the best...no more...I have about 15 pair of Kai scissors...oh, no...don't tell Dennis...

Can you use them all at once?!-lol-How many hands do you have?-lol- No reason you can shell out those quilts and outfits for the girls so fast!-I'll check these out. Are yours 45mm or 60mm or with so many, you may use both!

toogie by toogie 25 Oct 2014

The gingher at Wawak were $32.99

dragonflyer by dragonflyer 25 Oct 2014

I have the 45mm ones the N5045 with the cover that goes over the blade when it is in my sewing bag...I also have the 28mm one the N5028 and it also has the plastic cover for when it is in my bag...their blades are wicked sharp and last a long time...and the cutters will take the Olfa or Fiscars blades of the same size if you need to buy them at JoAnn's or someplace else...

I use the 45mm and have the Olfa, Clover and also a Fiskars. I like the Olfa the best and if I buy another one that is what it will be. As far as the Clover, I do not care for it whatsoever. I will never buy another one of that brand. Hugs,

Thank you, this is what I needed to know. I was undecided between the Olfa and the Gingher. The Gingher replacement blades may be harder to find. I tried to see what some are using in their tutorials.

I have tried quite a few different ones but my favorite has to be the Fons & Porter one it has 3 turns on the button: a light touch & a heavy touch & the off button in the middle so it will release the pressure of the blade accordingly which means less strain on my hands & wrist. It is a very comfortable tool & has a big hole @ the end so I can hang it up when not in use. Hope you find one that you like too!~hugs~ Just an FYI also made by KAI. I wish that I could show that back side it has positions for changing the width of the blade from light (thin layers) or heavy (multiple layers) of fabrics Very nice to have

I have heard of Fons and Porter but haven't seen their rotary cutters. I will have to google it,I guess.

I have not seen the Fons and Porter either. If you find out more about it let us know and how difficult would it be to buy replacement blades. I don't think they carry them a Joannes. Kay

pldc by pldc 24 Oct 2014

Yes I did get mine @ Joann's & I like it very much

Good , I will check them out. KAY
