Please may I make a request on behalf of all those who have to use a translator to access the site? I've noticed that recently a lot of abbreviations and bits of textspeak are creeping into our posts and these will be making it very difficult for those for whom English is not their first language (as well as for me who, on the odd occasions I send a text, I write in words with punctuation - very slowly!)

Good on you for bringing this up Sue. I, for one, never use textspeak! I am from the old school and a stickler for Grammar! The kids all laugh at me when I send text messages as I always use punctuation, eg. apostrophes, exclamation and question marks ('?!). I think because of modern technology and busy lifestyles, people are always in such a rush that they want to convey their messages in as short a time as possible. I suppose in the long run it really doesn't matter how one conveys a message or spells, but I do like to read a well worded message. I use Google Translator a lot for my Italian lessons and you can get around it as sometimes it's just quite not right!! Love Chris

not a fan or Textspeak myself, so I heartily agree with you. It is very difficult to get an accurate translation even when the grammar is perfect, whatever the language.

Thank you for the reminder Sue! I do text and when I do I try to use the real words but sometimes I need to abbreviate if it is a long message. I will try to keep it the right way for posting! Thanks!

Thank you Sue. If we are all careful with the words we choose and try to use correct spelling, more people might be able to help us with our embroidery projects.
I use Chrome with spell check so that my dyslexia will not cause as many issues with our international Cuties when they try to translate my posts.

I agree!!! What has happened ????? No one wants to write the words anymore...its' bad enough that we don't talk on the phone anymore, all texts (I am guilty to an extent) but not even writing down what we mean...I miss out on lots of whats text trying to decipher the messages sent...thanks for bringing this subject up....kudos to you!!!!!!!

Oh sue I am so with you on this. Whenever I text people it's like an essay. Full words no double Dutch all the punctuation and it takes ages but it is readable to all except maybe the younger ones who wouldn't know a comma if it bit them.

Yep, Sue, I don't know 1/2 of what is said on texts.....especially teens!

Yeah! I myself do not know what most of the text speak means either...and English is my language!

Thanks Sue. Those instant translators do a mediocre and sometimes hilarious job, mostly because of the different word-order in other languages. Textspeak, however, is the most difficult to understand; e.g. gr8 would mean canal in Dutch and it would be equally difficult to guess why someone would write (Dutch) l8, which means laugh(s).

I agree with Martine on the hilarity of some of the translations! and I am with you too, Sue.....

I try not to use slang... thanks for the reminder. I use google translate all the time now. I hear there are better ones for some languages.
