I bought a sign from the dollar store picture #1. cute but all that work to put up & then take down for Christmas set up. sigh......so I decided to make it a double duty sign! Painted Santa's Face on the other side picture#2 but as you can see the spots to the right & left & top & bottom are blank? This would be the hands & feet of the scarecrow. Do I leave it the way it is or what can I put in those spots? That wouldn't look silly? I thought maybe a poof for his hat on the top right? Any ideas or leave it as is? I am not the greatest painter as you can see, I think his eyes might be a little too feminine? Maybe needs darker lashes?

He's sweet, you have some excellent ideas!
You could add blue background with snowflakes, then again I'm no artist :)

I love the Santa. You are so talented. You could paint the blank parts the same color as the wall or door where you will be hanging it . . . then it will fade away into the background. Beautiful work!

How very clever! I love your Santa, and agree with comments that you could add Christmas Greenery or Presents around him to fill in the rest. And love the idea for glasses. You are very talented!

Looking again, and I think the white parts are scarves on the scarecrow so I think they could be striped scarves for Santa too. Then maybe the squarish on the right side be in green or something, I don't know but the rest is scarves?

He is lovely, I like his gentle eyes.. yes a poof for his hat, what if you painted bows (on the shaped bit) on presents and gift bags for the others

Now that's what I call inventive. Your painting is wonderful Loralye. Perhaps his mouth could be a little bigger?

I agree with the other cuties, I would add glasses, some green pine tree, and his hat may be red. Good job!

So smart! Try making the black in his eye a little bit larger. Our eyes aren't normally that dialated. That will probably help what you think if too feminine! Not a lot bigger, mind you! I think he's great! Agree with the other...make those blank spots greenery. That will also set off Santa. Great job!

ok I will try the black parts again & think about the greenery I was thinking about a pompom for his hat on the one side & will go from there lol Thanks Gerry!~hugs~

I thought the same thing about the pompom! The one of the left side (as you are looking at the picture)? I think that would look great too!

He looks fabulous. This was inspired. I don't paint at all and this looks very skilled to me!

I've been doing doubles on stitching. For example, a Christmas design on one end of a towel and a flower for the rest of the year. My favorite - pillowcases that are red and green "Merry Christmas" (in a childish dot font) on one side and strong pink in a swooshy cursive "Sweetheart" on the reverse.

Hi Loralye, I agree with Lynn - a pair of rimmed glasses will look great and I'd add some green pine trees or tinsel or something "blingy" - great job. Love Chris

Why not make the poofs look like green limbs of a christmas tree or make them holly or his deer peeking from behind him or elves/Lillian

Really good art work. If you want to add something more, maybe add wire rim glasses (paint them in gold coloured paint) Then where the white is behind him paint green to look like a pine tree branches. If not it is still a great painting of Santa.

Looks nice both sides.
Add some pine branches or tinsel glued shinny where the white parts are. His beard looks well trimmed.

thanks Mary I will try that too!~hugs~
