Effects of different stitch angles.

I got quite a few comments about the nice shading in my begonias. There was not any shading at all, just different stitch directions.
The picture shows one colour being stitched and the apparent colour shades are all due to different stitch directions. I started with a general underlay for each flower, then a large blob of colour for the centre and the outer petals are digitised one by one using different stitch directions.
Picture #1 shows the effect, picture #2 is a screenprint from the design page which clearly shows the stitch direction of the objects. Numbers 10-18 in the object list are the lower flower on the right. There. are no jumps in the 2 touching flowers, so it stitches nicely.
I added a third picture in which I gave the "blobs" in the middle a different colour.

The darker yellow gives definition both in the centre as around the outer petals.

As you can see it is really worth playing with st. directions, it makes things come to life.

This always surprises me when I buy a set of designs and think there is a huge number of thread changes to create the shading. Then I discover, no. It's the direction.

I love how different directions of stitch give such amazing colour. I don't digitize, but I appreciate an artist.

Thanks. We've got a few repair jobs planned, new garage doors etc, after that we are planning to come over to your site of the pond. I'll let you know, we should plan an Embird thingy.

I agree -- it is an excellent demonstration. Since I cannot be there for your Embird gathering, could I be a "fly on the wall?" Oh to watch you both "play" with Embird. It would be grand!
