This is not embroidery but I have been working on these rag rugs for a craft show next week and thought I would show you. I use old sheets to make these and it will take approximately 3 king sheets to do a rug....I shop the thrift stores and yard sales and can sometime get sheets for 1.00 each because they have stains on them but when making these it don't matter because you won't see any stains. I enjoy making these but don't make on my lap because the will curl ....start them while I watch tv on a tv stand and then take outside to my table to do so I can keep them laying flat...My first one I gave away since it curled and my friend wanted it for shoes to sit on in her trailer and it was a small one.

Thank you all for your kind responce to my rugs. These rugs are very easy to make. If you can do a blanket stitch you can make these and there in probably very little chance to fall apart because of the way they are put together. I don't know how to make a video so will tell you where to go to see it made. The needles are hard to find but you can use your head and get someone to make you them. I made a bunch for teaching and sell them for 3.00 plus 1.00 for shipping since they are hard to find...I teach classes here and give them with the class so I have extra if anyone wants one. First you take your sheets and lay them on you sewing mat or yard stick.....now take and cut strips 2 inches and tear. If you want one that is thin try 1 inch (I use this for place mats). You can go to www.youtube.com and type in toothbrush rugs and watch how to make. Most of my sizes are 30 to 34 inches across by approximately 24 inches wide. I think I have answered all the questions you have. Oh by the way my starting strip is approximately 20 to 24 inches on the ones I like the best....but you can do whatever you like or use as little as six to make a round one....Remember only add increasing at the oval part never on the long side. think of it like this ....draw an oval like the rug and draw a line down the middle of the long end...then make a y on the end part increase at these points after the 3 or 4 th row (2 stitches in the points of the y and one in center. I hope I explained this good enough. I any more questions please ask and I will try to answer.
