Thinking ..... I rather like Sue Dewsbury's idea to cover the back of the stitching...... but .....iIf the same thread were used in the top and bobbin would the back look like the front??

I did the same Sue did, stitched it in the center of a 4" wide strip, sewed the back, turned, sewed 1" from top and bottom with a wing needle and made the fringe.
You could indeed use same thread in bobbin as on top, it would more or less the same, but you'd have to cut the jumps top and bottom to get it right.

Digitised it in yellow, but when you hinted at violets and celandines I decided to match the colour to my violets. Now for the celandines :)
