A new TV series started last night in UK. Eight people were put in a room with a huge and varied supply of fabric and notions, sewing machines and time. They had to make a simple skirt, alter the neckline on a blouse and make a dress to fit a real model. Quite interesting.

Would you like to have been one of the eight?

it does sound interesting, I hope Australian tv rips that off like it does all of the other reality tv franchises. I would not mind being on that sort of show but I don't think my sewing skills are up to the standard.

I couldn't find your follow-up report on the second in this series but I read that the knives are out (or should that be the scissors) from the many, many ladies who want to cut Claudia Winkleman's fringe off and to get her to stop the habit of clutching at her dress like she's about to curtsy to someone! Ms Winkleman is not in the sewing ladies good books, it would seem....................................

What an interesting concept for a tv series. Too bad we do not get this in the USA. I would certainly like to observe others and their progress but no I would not like to be one to be on the program with everybody watching!!

No, but I might have enjoyed being able to mill around the room and observe!

Episode 2. Well, they made a total of 18 garments on tonight's programme and I think only about 4 would have been wearable!

You are right Sue, but I liked one of the blouses, pattern I would never have bought but looked real good on the model. Recorded it so might go back and have another look another day. Glad I am not in for taking part, would get the wooden spoon lol, too short a time to make things, hate rushing. Believe in look twice and cut once lol

I watched it also and like many of you , I too would have liked the "experts" to have shown how things should have been done
Interesting program though, will watch the next one on Tuesday. X

Sorry Sue missed your question.......No I wouldn't like to be one of the eight......maybe 40 years ago when I was really into clothes making, now it is mainly craft. X

I watched it,but was a bit disappointed. I was expecting the first show to be a bit more helpful to those who were learning for the first time, but before the hour was up, they had to make a dress to fit a model!! And it would have been nice if one of the 'experts' sat at the machine and showed how it was done. Reminded me of Skating on Ice when the judges were telling the skaters they should have done this, and they should have done that! And I was shouting at the TV "why don't you get up and show them?"

Nope to nervous for that - wish we could view it here already. Love to see what the people were up to, guess will have to wait. Enjoyed the food show.

No, I don't really enjoy some-one looking over my shoulder. Not into reality TV but would have liked to see this one. As for Experts.......they are "drips under pressure" PS not my quote.

I would like to have seen the results. Personally, I don't really want to fit anything to anybody anymore! :)

To quote from a forum I belong to the description was 'worthy but dull' I did not see it and from reading about 10 different peoples comments I am not about to rush off and see what I have missed

Sounds like a great concept of interest to many women, I would certainly watch it but wouldn't want to be filmed sewing, I struggle remembering techniques these days. Things that were once second nature now elude me so by the time I hunt down the memory in my brain's archives it takes me twice as long to complete any project . LOL!!!!
What was the name of the show Sue? They might show it on our BBC or Cable UKTV.
Hugs and roses, Meg

I watched it Sue and have put all on record in case I forget one night lol.
It was interesting, but would have loved to have seen the real experts make something too and explain as they went along.
I thought all coped amazingly well with the pressure and in some cases not a lot of time to make things. well I seem to take a lot longer lol. but thrilled that sewing is finally being shown all the same. Let us hope it was watched enough for follow ups of some sort

Quite right - they had enough to say! I would also have liked to see them actually do something.

I took a class in school many years ago that taught me all of those skills -- except being able to do that as a timed test or in front of an audience. lol
If I had a lot of time and nobody watching me -- I think I would still mess it up and then join Sarah with words that should be "bleeped" lol

I am so sorry we can only watch BBC1. I would not mind the pressure of the competition, but TV - no thanks!

I am just so envious of you to be able to see the show. They certainly would not want me on the show - far too many expletives coming from my mouth when things do not go according to plan!!!!!

Wow what a neat idea *lol* When I was in school we had crafting as a school subject but Anna has "technik" now. So it can be interesting to see how they manage that.
I hate to be photographed so: TV-show? No thanks - not me ;o)

I watched this with great interest. I did admire the skills of those who have put themselves up for this challenge. Of course, it's not just about the sewing side of things but measurements, pattern making, knowledge of materials, colour and pattern coordination, and goodness knows what else. Did I learn anything from the programme? Yes.......I don't know anything about any of the above skills! In answer to your question..................No thank you. I did find it interesting though.
