HEART FLAPS

Note: If you want a design on the heart flaps, embroider the design to one side of the fold before you fold and insert the batting. For design placement, use the heart placement line from the Heart Back first hooping and see the heart flap placement instructions below

HEART FLAP PLACEMENTS
Take the right side of the Heart Flap and place the fold down the center of the heart. The top of the Heart flap fold should be in the center of the top of the heart. Angle the flap so that the bottom of the heart flap is approximately 3/4” to the right of the center bottom of the heart. Pin flap to heart base being sure pins are well out of the stitch area. Sew Color #4 single run tack down of right heart flap. Remove pins
Repeat for left heart flap. Left flap will lie over the right flap and folds should touch or intersect at the top of the heart. Stitch Color #5 single run tack down of left heart flap. Remove pins.
Remove hoop from machine but DO NOT remove fabric from hoop.
HEART BACK PLACEMENT
If you want a ribbon hanger, loop ribbon and tape or glue to heart front at top of heart, loop to the inside of the heart
Take the Heart Back and place it RIGHT SIDE DOWN over the heart front in the hoop making sure it covers the outline of the heart front. Pin in place keeping pins out of the stitching area. Stitch Color #6 double run tack down with opening left for turning. Remove pins.
Remove from hoop and trim all layers ¼” from Color #6 tack down. When trimming at the opening, I leave an extra ¼” across the opening for easier stitching of the closing.
Turn right side out (this is a tight turn, if you need to, snip a couple of stitches at the side of the heart, rather than the bottom of the heart to increase the opening a bit…press well turning in raw edges of the opening…blind stitch the opening to close...
Optional: After turning, pressing and stitching the opening closed you can top stitch around the heart on your sewing machine
You’re done! Enjoy!
