PLEASE CUTIES THIS IS A BIG ONE! A friend of my daughter asked me if I could fix this & I am looking for some tips on how to fix this chair pillow? as you can see by the second pic the fabric is very thin & wearing out I do not have any fabric to match it & this spot is where you sit down. It is pretty old but he has 2 autistic children & this is THEIR CHAIR sew I have to be quick with whatever I do as they are in day care right now sew I have until 6 tonight to finish before they get home? I thought about stitch ripping it but it has button-hole tuffs sew that wouldn't work out, there is not enough room to fold back the fabric to sew from the back side & I thought about iron patches but they would probably pick at them & it might not be comfortable to sit on? I thought about whip-stitching with embroidery floss but not sure how that would look either?

Maybe for future use have a set of slip covers made with fabrics they pick out. One for birthdays, Christmas, Easter, special days for them. Thus a change of cover would not be as hard on them as it would be just out of the blue(as we say). Something else might be appliques made that they can play with, feel and love; then if a hole happens they could chose which applique they wanted to use.

Could you not just use some fabric with heat and bond and turn the cushion over so it is on the bottom? I mean flip the whole thing?

Could you make like bandaid type appliques and tell them the chair has owee's. How old are the children.

How is the fabric on the back side? Could you use fabric from the back side to replace the front and then, either patch or replace the worn front making it the back where the children will notice it less?

Or.....maybe they have an old shirt that they are used to that you could make a slip cover from. Maybe make a game out of "healing the chair"

This sugestion is too late for you now but maybe the
childern could pick out a new fabric to cover the cushion at a later date.If this idea was to their liking buy enough fabric to make 2 covers so this predicament could be avoided in the future.

Just now getting time to be on the computer and that is very worn. Have fixed something like this with fusible interfacing and then did the three stitch mending stitch with the different color of threads. By now you probably have found a solution and I hope all goes well with the little ones. Their comfort chair is important.

All the best with your repair project. I don't have any other answer, except that they could be taught(?) a slight change of colour by putting a loose piece of draped material over it. Maybe repair what you can do and try the loose draping thereafter. (Just so that they can get used to it )and then make a new loose cover with the new material. I hope that might be of assistance.**

Wow i would trace the out line and thus make a pattern and put a heavy fabric
over it with a zipper at the back so it can be washed .lol But thats just what i would do hugs

A change of color, feel, pattern... would upset most Autistic children. They do not deal with change well at all. Do your best for a reverse applique like jenne suggested.
They are usually very tactile children so anything that feels different will be "wrong." However, you might suggest the temp fix of reverse applique (I use this method to fix my son's pants) and get the mom to take the girls to pick out new fabric for a cover.
I will try to add pictures for the visual people.

Sad. I think if they are given time to think about it and if you show them some fabric you have -- so they could touch it -- they might adjust OK. It is difficult not to ruin their mood but advanced warning works best.
Minky with the bumps is my son's favorite.
Good luck my friend! Hugs

thanks again I took your advise & kept it very simple sew as not to upset them. I did make a loose cover for it just to see it they will except it But it is removable if they don't.It is not the same color but it is the same type of fabric chintz! Sew I am hoping that will be ok. Thanks my friend Hugs Loralye

I would machine applique large flower shapes over the holes in a color that would be close to the flowers in the print.

My mother would do Dads pant thus ."put fabric under the hand whip with very small stitches all around the edges turning them under did not look bad when finished, and color as close as you can get so I will be to noticeable.

I think this is probably the best thing to do sew that it is a close to the original as I can get! I made a slip cover but it is not in the same color but the same type of chintz? but if the color will upset them then I will leave it out. thanks Jenne Hugs Loralye

MAYBE I SHOULD JUST MAKE A SLIP COVER FOR IT? I just don't know if that would upset them or not? I don't have alot of experience with Autsium but what I have read on-line tells me that this cushion is like a home base for these 2 girls sew it is really important that I get it right
