Do you get those wooden style pegs? I would use one of these and spread it slightly and make a solid base for it to sit in. Maybe use bread clay or plasticine etc. and build up around the stem of it to make it look like the real trunk of the palm tree. Love and blessings Chris

Well, I live next door to palm trees. The trunks have rings on them as the
plant grows up and the lower fronds fall off. That would help make the trunks more realistic. Also, a bit tapered with the bottom a bit wider would
look good but they can be uniform in size too.
I would check the craft department and look at the wooden dowels etc
Depending on how far you want to go with this-you could cover dowel with clay and make a preety realistic trunk. I'm sure many other creative
ideas from wrapping with yarn etc.

I would get limb out about on my place and get out cordless drill, put small bit in sized for my wire ends place my palm as desired using glue gun to fill in hole to hold wires permanet. If trunk needed wrap with crepe roll or paint ???

How about finding a twig -preferably curved somewhat as are most palm trees I've seen - and securing the wires to it with dark brown floral tape? The tape stretches to cover stems smoothly and has a rough-looking texture to it. The palm branches you made do look very realistic. Now that I'm thinking about it, I have some silk miniature fern fronds that would give the same effect.
