I got to thinking how it is hard for me to get to bigger craft store for clear ornaments. So I found a way to do it and ta,da it works. Cheaper too! You start with glass old OR new ornaments. Heat water to boiling shut off add bleach and use tongs to immerse. Results the shiny color gone and a clear bulb like in picture here. See my project I am going to have new goodies on my tree this year.

Great idea - I can see a few of the thrift shops running out of them - really fast. Thanks for the info.

What a clever idea. Wish I had seen this a week ago. Needed to make tree ornaments for Greyhound Rescue of Idaho and had to buy 50 some clear glass ornaments. I'll definitely have to try this if I need to make anymore. Thanks for the information!

We put some ornaments in our aquarium last Chriatmas to decorate it and the color flaked off all by itself in the water. So you may not need the boiling water. Susan

They probably would after long aquatic stay. Guess fishey stuff helped lol. This works quick. Thanks for the aquarium idea as one never knows what they might need to do the job.

It started with if I want a clear bulb where do I get around my little country territory? Then I thought I bet there has to be a way to get the shinny gone. So I searched for answer. It works as you can see. Like I said works out better cost wise too.

now that is clever, would not have thought that the bleach would make them this clear and there seem to be no residue.

I rinsed with water had couple with drip spot after dry I suggest a q-tip with little alcohol on it to wipe that away. Worked great. Now I have some bigger ones to work on. If you do please share, I do enjoy all the niffty projects on here.
