I am a self teach so please excuse my not perfected verison but thought I would share with you. I made this hex from Sew Art. Then thought I would try to put together with zig zag. Which did not do as well with. So part got attached that way and other by hand.

It does look so pretty. Sometimes I do a few hand stitches and then go over it with the zig-zag over them. It saves trying to pin and avoid breaking a needle.

That is how you learn. I "experiment" myself! It looks wonderful and if someone in the know knows that it is homemade that they are all the wiser. Live Laugh Download Stitch

I made a quilt of this pattern called "Grandmother's Flower Garden" I sewed the edges together as you would any other seam at the points I used the y, seam methoid. (keep up the good work the more we try things the better we become at what we do.)

I personally think you have done an excellent job. I have difficulty matching up & sewing straight, so I admire it when someone else does such a good job in doing so........

Oh you are so nice thank you! If it can be cut crooked, or sewn crooked I will have done it some times several times before I get content with a project.

I think you you did a great job. I often use my edge joining foot to join pieces like this. See if your machine comes with one or you can purchase one. You can also try adjusting your zigzag width.

Thank you and thanks for suggest I don't havethe joining foot will have to check into that. How big of a zig zag width should I use?

Thank you, I made the hex turned them right side out. A old time pattern. The quilters call flower pattern, I believe. I started with yellow center, then six of hex of the gold with tiny apples around the yellow center hex. Then the green as you can see. I think if I do again will do matching thread to put together or handsew with all the way. Many make quilts from this pattern.

Well I think you did a pretty darn good job for being self taught. Inset "Y" seams are difficult to do, even for experienced quilters. You know what is really great about it? You finished it. Hugs, Susan
