I was hemming a pair of pants this afternoon and remembered a neat tip I learned {somewhere?}. When you want to sew a straight line that is Past your guides on your machine (as in my case I wanted to stitch 80CM or approx 3.25" from my needle) take a fairly thick stack of Post-It-notes and place them on the machine bed at the point that you want to stitch to keep your article going straight. Perfect seam ~ Voila!

This is a handy hint using sonmething most of us probably have on hand When I was teaching girls to sew for 4-H I would give them each a stick of gum . Leaving the paper on, tape it down on the machine bed and the fabric will glide right along nicely. When the were finished for the day they got to unwrap and chew the gum. 8&9 year olds thought this was wonderful!

Good idea! Wouldn't have the post-it note paper to deal with.

Having designed and sewn 22 animal costumes in 2 weeks, I couldn't even think straight let alone sewn straight LOL. Luckily I have quite a good eye for straight!

Thanks, great tip! Doesn't happen often, but when it does I really need something like this. Now if I can only remember it when I need it......hee hee hee. Hugs, Marji

Great tip! I cannot sew a straight line so I always have to have a guide of some sort to help me. This works fantastic!

I wouldn't use a magnetised guide or any other magnetic tool near my embroidery machine, or any computerised machine.
I was under the impression that magnetic items can interfere with the computer in the machine.
I have, however, used thick double-sided sticky tape, such as is used for sticking pictures to walls, leaving the top plastic protection in tact.
I like the thick stack of Post-It-Notes best of all.
Thank you for that excellent tip.

thanks, I usually use painters tape which doesn't work very well. I'm going to put a stack beside my machine right now!

I have a nice metal guide that is magnetized and stays in place. Works like your note pad, but much smaller and easier to use. Think I got it at JoAnn's some time ago.

Nice tip ! No sticky residu and a thicker 'barrier' than painters tape.
