Have mine in nets or the plastic bags they came in in an beauty case. Not ideal, but I can shove it under my table.
Thank you everyone for your suggestions, I will definitely give some thought to them. *4all.
Hi Lyn, For starters I only use three different colours, regardless of project, white, black & grey and I keep these in the big drawer of my Horn sewing cabinet underneath the lift-out divider tray. Before I got my Horn I used to just lay them flat in a drawer of my (sewing) desk. All my sewing machine threads are in another drawer of this desk, DH made me a drop-in wooden rack with lots of little dowel sticks so all the spools stand upright. I love my sewing desk more than my new Horn cabinet, which i won't be keeping too long as i find it too narrow for serious sewing. You could try any of the multitude of plastic thread boxes available from Spotlight or storage boxes, (even underbed ones with wheels) available at all two dollar bargain shops and stick the boxes under a bed. Sorry can't be more helpful. hugs n roses, M
mess in a draw when I didn't have a sewing room I had them on a coat hook in a cupboard that was better
Put mine in extra tall plastic container, see threw, little taller then a show box with a plastic cover. I keep the plastic bag it comes in and put over top and tuck into bottom of cone.put one up right and one bottom up that way you can fit more into box. stored mine in same box for about 15 years. works well for me!!
I use Mens shoe boxes. They fit just right. Top & tail them & put in the linen press. :) *
what about a plastic container to keep them upright and tidy also keeps the dust off them, and have you tried hugo's amazing tape? It is a non sticky tape that clings to itself so can be wrapped around the spool and keeps the ends securely in check. I got some from allstitch.net. Hope this helps.
I also have wooden racks, but I found it really helps to use the thread nets, keeps them from getting all tangled up. Even if you keep them in a drawer and/or bags they won't get tangled with the thread nets on. You can get the nets pretty cheap on ebay.
Lyn , I have a wooden rack for mine. Don't know if you have stores there that have these . Mine came from a Hobby Lobby. ( a fabric ot craft store would have them. ) If you wanted to hind the rack you could put on the wall of a closet. A flower for you.
