I want to make some potholders, but I'm concerned about the threads melting. I know that my iron will melt polyester (don't ask how I know that). Is there a problem with using polyester threads on potholders? Or do you just not use the side with the design on it? Or do you just use rayon thread? I'd like to use the polyester thread so I can bleach them as my potholders get so stained.

Great! I had wondered because I ironed a fabric that had polyester in it with my new iron and it melted on my iron. I didn't know that the fabric had poly in it nor did any of my other irons melt the fabric. The factory gave me a range of the highest temps that their iron could reach which made me crazy. I tested how hot my iron got and it was 340 degrees. So I started worrying about pot holders!!

I made some last year and the threads are fine. Enjoy your pot holders

I'd go ahead with the poly thread, just as you thought, keep the pretty side up. Be sure to use insulbrite inside and you won't have to worry about the hot pans burning through them.
