Dear Cutie family, I need help, please. My twelve years old GD has take upon herself to be the welcome wagon on her neighborhood, now she has about 6 kids on her group, when somone new moves they all go together to welcome that family (mainly to know if they have kids,LOL) so she makes a pie and take it to them, I was thinking about making some kind of little aprons or something for them to wear when they are welcoming a family, ANY SUGGESTIONS? tHANKS.....

Maria, If it were me, I would do simple vest for each of the group. A cute simple flower with "welcome to the neighborhood" or just Welcome. Of course, if you do that, the new neighbor family may have several children that want to join in with the group. It could get to be a big job for you! hehe A simple name-tag for each of the group would would be nice and not so hard to do as the group changes. Your GD is very thoughtful to take this upon herself!

Maria all I can say is she has a loving heart like her grandma.
The only thing not previously mentioned is perhaps one of those pretty, frilly, little mob caps like they wore in olden times. They could each have their name on them.
Who knows they may even like to get all dressed up like settlers or, what do you call them there? Pilgrims?
Sounds like something that could grow and spread throughout the land. :-)
Hugs n roses, Meganne

Oh my gosh! Just how great are these kids! A lot would depend on if there are boys in the group. (I just did some black aprons for men who serve breakfast for a group.) Why don't you have your GD ask the group what they would want? It might be nice for them to simply put a tag (a tag making event?) tied to an apple with their name on it to give to the family so the new family could remember all their names.

How neat - what super grandkids! I used to make those woven pot holders when I was a kid - maybe the kids could enjoy making those too! Those new neighbors must surely be impressed! Too wonderful!

Maria, I think this is great! I was just thinking, besides making aprons for the kids (and some very large male chefs do wear aprons, even if they are boys), how about a dish towel to go along with the pie? Wal-Mart has inexpensive flour sacking towels, and one with a kitchen redwork or bluework design would give the person something to remember those fantastic young people by. I've put a link to Miss V's kitchen redwork set, I'll bet you have it already, because it was free a long time ago. I looked, the designs are smaller, and some only have like 1300 stitches--would do up in a jiffy. Just use heavy starch instead of stabilizer. Just an idea... Hugs, Marji

all I can say Maria is GD is like her Grandmother. If there are any boys in this group an apron wouldn't be appropriate for the welcome wagon committee. Vest, Sash or large 4x4 Badge with Welcome committee on it would be nice. You are so blessed/Lillian

Even pretty sashes would be an Idea, like the ones at beauty pagents.
Some precious Kids, these are.

You have a very special and very precious grand-daughter.
If the group would wear aprons that would be lovely. Another idea that just leapt into my mind was light-weight vests with a logo or design embroidered on them.
You must be very proud of your grand-daughter.

It is very generous of her. When I moved from France to England 3 years ago, one of the neighbours brought us a bottle of milk. It was such a stressful time and that bottle of milk was such a precious present. She is doing a great job !
It will be lovely to make them an appron.

This morning I read a new newsletter from emblibrary who gives a pattern of adult apron but you might need to make them smaller:

Aprons would be a lot of fun. Maybe also some of the mitt type potholders so that they can safely remove pies from the oven. Maybe they could come up with a team name and you could embroider their team names on their aprons. Sounds like lots of fun!!

What a wonderful things for the kids to do! If not aprons, try tee shirts with something about welcome on them. But I agree, I bet they have a good idea of what they want!!
