Mylar is a thin sheet like cellophane that can be put behind a design to give a sparkle appearance...it is also washable.
Just google "mylar for embroidery" and you will get some hits for it....

Thank you, Suzanne, I use mylar now more than metallic thread, so much easier, with metallics my machine is so touchy..
