I have been wondering about a bias tape maker. Who has one and how do you like it and how does it work?

What do they cost?

Wow thank you for this info. Much cheaper at Amazon.com. I will have to think about this.

God bless

Amazon carries them too. It doesn't look like it makes double fold...that's what I need, double fold. Well, not NEED!

There are two types of "TIP", one makes single fold with two raw edges, the other makes a true double fold with the raw edges meeting at the centre underneath.
I know this because I just read it. LOL!!!

My friend got one and she hardly ever needs bias so guess who has it and uses it....meeeeeeee. It is wonderful having friends that have things you can use. I just love it....I purchased a small plastic bin and cut a box up to wrap the bias around and went to town. Now I always have some. Little hint if you need lots of white....use a sheet or pillow case and you will have tons of bias whenever you need it. What you don't make roll like a jelly roll till needed.

I have a full set of clover bias binder makers which I bought more than 10yrs ago & are used regularly.Never have to worry about finding matching bias binding anymore ,just make your own.As for burnt fingers lower the heat & steam settings before ironing.

I have the simplicity one and loveeee it, saves so much time. I make 25 meters of bias at a time on the more popular fabrics that I use alot. Highly recommend it.

Thanks - I just happen to really dislike the bought stuff - too hard to match something to what I want and then sometimes what you need they are out of! lol

DH bought me a Simplicity bias binding maker but I haven't used it yet, he also bought lots of different sized tape fittings.
If I ever get around to using it I'll post my critique here for sure.

I found some lovely ones and not so expensive R25.00 each (South Africa). The sizes are 18mm and 22mm. The older one that I had is narrower. I use them always to make true bias binding.
I would recomend a little spray starch when ironing, it works so much better.
For quilting I cut the strips on the straight so use the other method of folding in half and sew straight on.
Happy stitching.

I have the little metal one and it works great. It was only a couple of dollars. But baydreamer has a great method also....

You really don't need one. When you want to make it, cut fabric on the bais and just fold in half. Sew the unfinished edge to the wrong side and the folded edge over to the right. How I figure out the width is a just use a piece of fabric and start folding. I saw this on a sewing show and have used this ever since.

That's how I bind quilts. But for things like bibs and so I use a bias tape maker -a Prym 12mm one and a wider one by The Quiltery. They work great.

Are you thinking of the Simplicity one or the clover one? The clover is quite cheap. I had a coupon for Joann's so it was about $5.oo That is the one that I have.
The simplicity one is electric. I guess they have 2 now. A bigger better one.. They are about 50 to 100. That would be a lot of bias tape to make for that price. There is always the pin and iron.
