A Few of My Internet Etiquette Rules. (Not posting this to start anything, just thought I would share. Love and Hugs!)

1. Never type a group of words or a phrase in upper case. It makes it look like your shouting.
2. Always speak to others the way you would expect yourself to be spoken to in the physical world.
3. Make use of emoticons like :) and :( which help you to get your message across.
4. Patience is the key on the web these days. If you are upset or angry about something, try and wait a while before writing another message.
5. If someone bullies you or writes something bad to you, don’t insult them back. Why? Cause it just doesn’t work! Simply ignoring them or blocking their messages does the trick.
6. Never forget to greet people politely in every message you send. It really makes you seem like a friendly person.
7. Remember that whenever anything is written online, the reader only has words to work with; no facial expressions, no tone of voice, and no body language. It's easy for miscommunication to occur, so if you're unsure of someone's meaning, ask for clarification.
8. Just be yourself. :)

Great suggestions! Most folks seem to do most of them most of the time. I don't care for all caps, makes it harder to read, at least for me. Thank you for posting these.

Good rules. If I want something bigger, I just go to the top left on click on view and the drop down has zoom and I just increase it.

alexgrandma by alexgrandma 06 Jun 2012

I know that works with Chrome.

Carolyn, just hold down the Ctrl key and roll your mouse wheel. It enlarges or reduces the print as well as the rest of the page. It makes it so much easier to read.

Thanks for sharing. Yes sometimes I also forget and type in capitals - but not shouting.
The others I totally agree with it is so true.

I agree with Carolgm because I too have friends who need the caps, it would be silly of me to yell @ the pc but I sometimes forget that I have the caps lock on sew I will try to remember this in the future! they are very nice rules too Hugs Loralye

These are very good rules, and I agree about the caps. Having online friends with impaired vision I am quite used to reading in caps and it bothers me not one whit. So caps on ok with me. Hugs, Carol

Great Rules. As my mother allways taught me . It doesn't cost you anything to be nice to people and treat people with respect. Hugs Joyce

And then there is ME. I don't type very fast or very well, you know peck, peck, peck.Sometimes, when I have the Caps locked on, I don't notice until I look up.If I have written a lot(who me?,haha) then I don't want to start over. You get it in caps, or not at all, if I have to do over.Sorry-Toogie

Caps are ok for Lucy because she has eye problems and caps are easier for her to see.

Great list of rules that I think we can all try to remember, it's so easy to type & not think how it could be interpretered.

As far as reading vision & capitals go....
Here's the funny thing., I actually find it harder to read when people type in captials.

I prefer to enlarge the page as mentioned below, so much easier to read.

Hugs kitty

Thank you for the post AND for begining with your purpose.
Many times it seems the anonymity of the internet removes the societal rules most would have in person. This is a good list of rules.
I have some instructions that may help those struggling with vision problems.
[Not shouting just all caps for those who need help seeing the post]
IF YOU HAVE WINDOWS 7 HERE ARE THE INSTRUCTIONS TO HELP MAKE THINGS EASIER TO SEE:
CLICK THE WINDOWS CIRCLE (USUALLY AT THE BOTTOM LEFT CORNER OF THE SCREEN)
JUST BEGIN TO TYPE “EASE OF ACCESS”
SELECT “EASE OF ACCESS” FROM THE LIST THAT SHOWS ABOVE
THE TOOLS IN EASE OF ACCESS ARE THERE TO HELP PEOPLE WITH VISION PROBLEMS -- LIKE THE MAGNIFIER, THE NARRATOR, AND HIGH CONTRAST OR IT MAY BE EASIER TO SELECT “MAKE THE COMPUTER EASIER TO SEE”. FOR MORE SERIOUS VISION PROBLEMS SELECT “OPTIMIZE FOR BLINDNESS”
THERE ARE OTHER TOOLS THERE AS WELL.

For those with other Windows operating systems like Vista or XP if you need instructions, let me know and I will post them for you too.
Flowers for all!

Also if you hold down your Ctrl button while moving the wheel of your mouse that makes the page and writing be smaller and bigger.

oigelcox by oigelcox 06 Jun 2012

Thanks for this I did not know this and would apreciate the instructions for XP. Thank you so much Joyce

For XP click "Start" select "Control Panel" Choose “Accessibility Options” and turn on the options that help you. There is an “Accessibility Wizard” to guide you if you wish.

WE totally understand about some people needing capitals. LUCY, DON'T WORRY, WE UNDERSTAND. It is really difficult keeping a friendly tone in all our writing, and sometimes we can be misunderstood. It does help to re-read what we type before pushing submit. It just isn't worth hurting people's feelings by writing things in a way we don't mean. Thanks for these NETIquette tips :-) Jan

Thanks for this. There are some Cuties who due to sight problems have asked us to use uppercase like LUCYPIOW which is why I use it then
