My daughter Lizell has the program and she only has good things to say about it. Go for it

Yes, SewIconz is terrific! I have Janome's Digitizer Pro, which does have built into it an album for viewing your designs, even tells you size, stitch number, etc. BUT unless I'm going to do some really intensive sorting, looking, etc. I don't bother opening it. SewIconz is just there all the time, shows you a picture of the design right in your file folders, you don't have to "open" anything like another program. Very cheap, and so worth it, I think, even if you do have a digitizing program. Hugs, Marji

Is this Program almost like Sew what Pro???

No Carolyn.
Sew what Pro is an editing program.
SewIconz is a program that allows you to see your design files as pictures in Windows Explorer. So it saves time in that you do not have to pen the design file in a program such as Sew What Pro or any other embroidery program to see what the actual design looks like.

or in any other program such as 5D to actually see what the design file looks like.
If you keep your files in a folder on your computer then you can see all the designs as pictures in that folder.

I purchased this program. It is fairly inexpensive and has saved me many hours organizing my designs.

There is a Yahoo Group for all the programs made by Sands Computing ( Sew What, Sew What Pro, SewIconz etc.)that you can join.
There is lots of information in the files of the group and you can always ask quesrtions on the group.

Link to the Yahoo Group below.

After reading the replies to your question I immediately decided to try the 7 day free offer. Fantastic, wonderful, great !! it does all that I wanted and I just cannot stop myself now putting all my PES files into their correct categories. I have been downloading freebies for nearly two years now and have hundreds of files that just show the PES icon I had even started to rename the designs so that I knew what they were. Now I can really organise them all. It is fantastic. Can'nt stay long I must get back to sorting my files. Thanks for everyone who recommended this piece of software. Will definitely purchase when trial period is over.

Well, you're ahead of me. I'm waiting for all the comments to come in to see if there are any negatives.

maltamaid by maltamaid 17 May 2012

I have requested on previous occasions about what software to use to convert PES files, but didn't get as many replies as you - although this Sewlconz was mentioned. I have been looking for something to organise my files by icon but wasn't sure; but after reading the comments you received I thought I would try it so downloaded the 7 day free trial. All I wanted to do was organise my files so that I could see the actual design in an icon. I didn't want any digitising software just a converter file and this seems to be just what I was looking for and it is very reasonably priced to at $25.00 after the free trial is over. Perhaps the only thing that I have not yet sorted out is to actually get the icons a little larger. I believe that this could be done but I have not yet ventured that far. I am just so happy being able to transfer my files.

My question is do you still have to open all zip files to get pictures of designs.

If you double click on the zip to get into it, you see them, unless there is a folder within the zip, then it needs to be unzipped. I used to keep things all in zips, but now open them right away to make sure they are not corrupt, and keep them that way.So it's a breeze to open a folder and see at a glance what designs are in it.

Thank you. I'm wanting to get the program. Been reading everything you all say.

Meg put me onto this programme and it's the best I've used.

The gentleman who owns it is a great help if you get stuck. Good luck. Love and blessings Chris

P.S. I also think Polly (Nonna57) uses it too.

You will wonder how you ever lived without it!

Being able to see your exact design from Windows Explorer, without having to open each one in a program, has got to be the biggest time saver EVER!

But a word of advice that could save you money...

if you have even the slightest thought of learning to digitise and might be thinking of purchasing Embird software, (which is by far the best on the market, bar none!!!) then don't buy SewIconz.

The reason being Embird has a module in it that does the same thing and it also integrates with the program to perform other functions inside the program itself.
hugs n roses, Meganne

I've heard that, that it's built into Embird. I haven't decided if I want to learn to digitize, probably don't have time right now to learn. Too many other things going on.....

meganne by meganne 17 May 2012

Not to confuse people, it isn't SewIconz in Embird. It is Embird's own Iconizer.

What advantage would this be over PE-DESIGN 8 or with it

Probably none. I was just looking for a program to look in folders at files so I could visually identify which file I want to stitch. You forget what the filenames are. I have an old version of Buzz Tools, but it seems to not want to look in subfolders.

Talk about making life easier! XP has the capability of changing icons-I had my pes as Kermit the frog, and the vip as violets, so I could tell them from the other design files. SewIconz give you an icon of the pattern, so each is a tiny picture. You can make it bigger, depending on how you choose to see the files-thumbnails for ex. and as you hover over each, it gives you the size and other info. Vista and 7 give you a bigger picture to see. And any question at all gets answered on the yahoo group.
