What kind of needles are you all using? I have a Singer Futura C-150 and wondered if I can use a different brand of needle in it. Also, someone told me they just use a large needle (jean) for sewing on demin...is this correct? I need to order needles and wondered where and what to get. Thanks for the help!

I have a Futura 250. I use Schmetz. The only needles I used that broke during embroidery were Singer brand. In fact, I had to have major repairs done to my machine (including replacing the bobbin housing) because of a Singer needle. Make sure you use the needle based on the type of fabric you are using (don't just use the "embroidery" needles) and replace your needle OFTEN. Some say after every project but I change based on the amount of time the needle is used without problems. I have also used Organ needles but I prefer the Schmetz.

My Futura uses most any needle but I prefer the organ titanium needles I get from Superior threads. It's their brand but made by organ. They last a lot longer than schmetz or universal needles.

A size 16 needle for embroidering jeans is usually enough. I use Organ needles, which I buy in bulk from either Home Sew or Newark Dressmaker Supply (sister companies) or AllBrands. I get an assortment of sizes, in both sharps and ball point. That way, I can find what each fabric needs, and it doesn't cost a fortune. If you are struggling with denim, then a jeans or topstitch needle would probably work, but they are rather expensive, comparatively speaking.

I just bought the Organ 100 needle assortment (9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20 (10 of each size, but 20 each of the 10 and 12)for only $9.98...on E-Bay and that includes postage! You can also get individual sizes...100 needles size 12 was also same price.

I use Singer needles,They have a chromium coated type that works really well with the embroidery machines. I have the CE-350 and the dealer told me that you can use other types of needles, but Singer does best for Singer machines:)

thanks you! I was wondering if they were the only type I could use, as that is what my DVD and manual says. I was suprised to see the other suggestions in the replies.

My Singer regular sewing machine won't take anything but Singer needles. I've tried them all.

I use Schmetz. I haven't used anything but that brand ever since I first started using them a long time ago. Now that I am doing ME, I;m still using the same brand. I didn't know much about needles when I first started as I also hadn't found this site, so I just used what I had and it has worked just fine - jeans 16 and stretch 14 or 11. I have now purchased the universal (still same brand) to try.

I use Organ or Schmetz. But different fabrics call for different sizes. 9-Bapitiste 11-12 for light fabrics(polyester most cottons)14 for my regular sewing like my slacks. 16- light to med weight
fabric and 18 for heavy poplin, jeans.Have NEVER yet broken needles. This was in an old singer dressmaking sewing manual.Works

Mostly I use Schmetz Universal needles and like them. (90/14) I use a metallic needle if I am emb. with metallic thread. If I have some fine thin fabric such as silk or chiffon, tulle fabrics of that sort I use an embroidery needle. I have schmetz, Organ etc. needles. My dealer told me to use the universals, so I knew it was okay and they are cheaper/Lillian

This site that I buy mine from has lots of useful info to read about needles. I use a 14 or 16 for my work which is mostly on webbing for dog leads etc. It says here that an 11 sharp is okay for denim. That may depend if you're going across seams much etc.

I have a singer F250 and it isn't fussy at all with needles (I bought organ). I do use differant sized needles for each type of material just like sewing. Good luck

Well I don't know if its correct. But when I needed to embroidery on denim I used a denim needle from Joanns sewing dept. Nothing in particular it just said denim. Worked okay for me.
