Hi, all, been off "air" for a month. Had a burglary (typical South Africa) and lost a brand new router for my internet, loads of other things but most of all my Embroidery Machines Bernina 440 and my Bernina Overlock 1150D. I feel so fed up with this country and wonder what I'm still doing here!! Elizabeth AK

Oh my! I am sorry to hear of your misfortune. The world is in upheaval it seems everywhere. It is a sign of the times. I wonder if you can hear what Paul Harvy said in 1965, if I post the link here. I will try. It is his voice also.

So sorry you had that happen to you. I'm sure sleeping is quite the same. Hope you will get enough insurance money to replace some of your stolen items.

Wow! Elizabeth what a dreadful thing to happen to you and your family. I only hope that you can put this all behind you and pray that your insurance company will cover your stolen goods. Reading the other answers makes me realise that this is not only happening in your country but countries all over the world. What is it with the people of today? Why can't we all just live and let live? Prayers and love being sent your way. Love Chris

So sorry to hear of your loss. You must have been devastated. I know I was. We live on the 9th floor in an apartment building. This was an inside job by the maid who worked for me part time, who left the front door unlocked as well as the security gate. She let him in and he came and stole my laptop with my Bernina designer's dongle in, as well as the charger. He then left straight away. Our CCTV shows how he gets to the bottom entrance and the door opens for him, then 6 minutes later, he gets down there with the laptop and the door opens again. So this is happening all over, here in South Africa, as well as abroad. Chin up and hopefully your machines will be recovered. ****

Doubt if you'll see it again. Problem is besides being violated by the burglar my insuarance company tells me we're uner insured. Sad part is, whatever was stolen was "new" all the other stuff the assessor values is so old and handed down from family who left the country. I have actually nothing of value left in the house and the money I'm getting isn't enough to replace my machines let alone the TV Kenwood iron kettle plugs, I am so fed up and angry with everything. I feel so much has happened lately that God doesn't love me anymore. There are other issues in my life at present but we won't gp there. Elizabeth AK

There is a correlation between crime and poverty. I pray conditons do not worsen as we go through this really complicated political and ethical challenging period in human history. You do what is in your best interest if you need information, most of us have strong opinions and lots of experience! Best of Life to you! christine LLDS!

Elizabeth - I had wondered where you had gone. I am so sorry to hear about all you have been through. I only hope you were insured. You say you are so fed up being here in SA. The whole world is having terrible problems. My thoughts are travelling to PE at the moment to be with you. We live in an amazing country - unfortunately it has some huge problems. Chin up. Big hugs Sarah.

Sorry for what happened to you, but it is not only South Africa, it is every where, the area were I live has many burglary, so before I went to visit my parents in US I took my PC, laptop, sewing machines, and sergers to a friend home, she lives in a third floor appartment, I felt better so you see is not only SA, here in Dominican Republic are bad too, I am having big problem with the internet signal the only place I could have a decent signal is outside next to a mango tree, it is almost time for me to seclude myself and I do not go out at all till next day, the house has metal bars everywhere, we are not safe anywhere we go.

I realise there are problems world wide and we have a lot to be thankful for but when you've been "hit" three times and then my daughter almost got robbed at a robot. In her car, guy comes up to the window & demands her cell phone(which was not in view) stating he had a gun. She told him to to push off, hooted and reversed her car and drove away. Hope your reception (internet) improves. Hug Elizabeth

You do seem to have a dreadful crime rate and serious crimes as well. Tell me please what is a 'robot' in this instance, for your daughter to be at one?

terriweistra by terriweistra 16 Mar 2012

A robot is a stoplight :)

greysewist by greysewist 16 Mar 2012

Thanks -that answer surprised me. Had no idea what you meant by a robot :) There must be an easy market for mobile phones for that to happen :(

Sorry to hear of your loss. Am afraid that you will not be able to run from this problem as the whole world seems to battle with problems - maybe less crime but more of other problems.

Unfortunately the wolr is is such a grip of consumerism that everyone want and wants it now and they don't car how they get it. We always say if it was for food I understand but it was no doubt a syndicate as the things they stole couldn't be carried away they obviously came in a vehicle to transport things.

True biggest problem is that life has become worthless and the saying do to others what you want for yourself no longer applies. We have joined our neighborhood watch and we can see how they care. Last night we were out on school activities and we got a call to ask if we were fine as we did not answer on the radio. So our community deals with crime. Not everybody but enough to make me feel safer. Absolutely understand your frustration. Hug for you to let you know there is people out there that cares.

phone call to hear if we were fine. Feels so much more safe. I understand your hurt and frustration can only send you a cyber hug to let you know there is people out there that really care. ** :)
