Could someone provide information about the Uganda Project? I've seen it mentioned several times but I don't know anything about it or how to help. Thanks Darmoola

Thank you for asking about this as I was wondering too. What kinds of fabric are you using? Wont's these be very thin? Just curious.

Hi Meri, They will be very thin, and that what we are talking about because these children live where it is hot. They just received basic mattresses for their bunk beds. These quilts are meant to provide comfort to them, for them to cuddle with, or sleep on, or put over their shoulders for sleeping. Mostly they are to tell them that someone, somewhere in this huge world, someone cared about them and made this just for them. You know how nice cotton can feel, cool in the summer, against your skin? Some people are putting just a thin sheet for batting, to add a little extra structure, but it's amazing how well two layers make a pretty nice, lightweight quilt :-) These children have nothing of their own, and this will be something for them to treasure forever. Thanks for asking, it does sound a bit weird!

Hi Darmoola, I'm Jan, and I'm the Cutie in charge or the Uganda Project. Lots and lots of wonderful Cuties are helping make 80 lightweight and small to be hand delivered to some orphans in Uganda. I know some of the people who are involved with this orphanage, and they will be hand-delivering these quilts in May! These children have nothing, but for now they are in a safe place, in an orphanage that is Christian, although it can't be stated as such for safety reasons. We do still need a few quilts, small sized in the range of 42 inches by 48 inches, just two layers with no batting, colorfast cotton, in midrange colors avoiding white and blacks as it is dusty there and the quilts will not be washing in clear water. Lots of people are making their very first quilt, and they don't have to be perfect! You can see some quilts in Projects. We just ask that whatever you make be stitched with LOVE. There are some designs Cuties have made that say Stitched with Love and Jesus loves me in their language we like to add. PM me with any questions, and please let me know if you woud like to help us by sewing one :-) We need to receive them no later than the last week of April! God bless YOU! Jan

The deadline is about April 15th 2012. Also, you can send small items for the children as extras to stuff in the quilts like finger puppets, hand puppets, small ITH dollies etc. If you are interested send a PM to Jan Hightechgrammy.
