Cards.

First experiments with my Embellisher/ Punch machine (which has been lurking in my sewing room for a couple of years). The one on the left, the first one I made, started out with a felt circle on beige felt. I used felt and knitting yarn, on the front and the back and noticed the difference that made.
The second one started as a piece of fleece. I had the idea of making an underwater scene, did some freehand embroidery meant to be seaweed, but ended up with a butterfly escaping from a dark environment.
It's a real challenge for me to start something without any preconceived ideas. I learned a lot and the results were good enough to use for a card.

What kind of machine do you have? I would like to have one in the future. Peg

I've got the Happylock special punch, but Janome, Husqvarna and Viking have them too, and Bernina has a set (stitchplate and needles)to use on some of their embroidery/sewing machines.

These look great! I've only done the "hand held barbed needle" technique, I'm sure this is much easier on the fingers... *4U

I never did the hand held one, but I've seen an old video (Sewing with Nancy I think) where they used the hand held to punch the stuff lightly by hand before using the machine. Nice for small bits - I noticed the small bits tend to curl up around the needles if you're not very careful.

These are great - I have one of these machines as well. I bought it on the same day as my embroidery machine and it has only been out of the box a couple of times!

A shame, isn't. I bought mine when my dealer had a sale before her cousins took over the shop and never gave the machine a real try. Saw some video last week and thought it was about time I did something with it.

They are lovely. But I too, am not familiar with this type of machine. Can the applied materials be easily pulled out? Since there is no bobbin, how does it stay attached? Is this similar to what is called "felting"? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks so much.

No, as a rule they can't be pulled off, they are punched right through. Some materials don't work as well as others though - the woolen felt worked perfectly, a piece of synthetic felt not at all.

Martine......these are gorgeous, I have an attachment to my machine that will do this and it is still in the box..LOL! Truly beautiful... Vicki

Yes, I know Bernina machines have them, Viking does not. It's a nice thing to play with once in a while.

Thanks. The machine has 5 barbed needles, no bobbin, no thread, and punches applied materials to the background fabric, faster than you'd do it by hand.

bumblebee by bumblebee 08 Mar 2012

Oh I know what you mean now MOPs. I make felt roses by hand with barbed needles and
and little plastic molds and merino roving.
