I have a questin for everyone how do you find the time to do as much sewing as you do. I work 5 to 6 days a work from 8 to 10 hours a day I get off work anywhere from 12 am to 2 am and the only time I can find the time to sew is on Sunday. I have been working on two quits for a while and still have a ways to go on them. All of your projects and designs are so beautiful. Thank you everyone for all of your hard work. I enjoy looking at them all.

I started embroidery as a hobby when I worked full time. Now I care for my husband who is now an invalid so I am at home 99% of the time. I mostly do digitizing and embroidery and love it. I do get a lot of interruptions though but can easily leave what I am doing and come back to it when I can.

I am also enjoying maintaining an 'Embroidery Websites' listing that I started. I decided to start one because I could not really find a top100 list that was totally devoted to embroidery. There is another one but they allow other sites and it is so large it is difficult to get through. The other site doesn't have a search feature either. I like computers too so computerized embroidery machines for me are great.

I take spells with it--I haven't sewn now in almost two weeks. But before Christmas, I sewed and embroidered every day after work until I was just sick of the pressure of having to get things done. I think my brain is in a "renewal phase" and is recharging. I also do alterations, and people are always really impatient about them, and don't want to pay what it's worth. They'll pay $150 for a pair of torn jeans, and then yell when they might have to pay $6 to get them hemmed! I want to choose something that will make me happy to make, instead of filling orders for people.

Even though i'm a housewife/farmer there is little time for sewing, I promised myself to not make anything else for somebody else before I make something for myself! Hope there would be time for that. Thanks to all the woman out there that have to word away from home. Hugs Louise

I am a housewife, carer of my husband, have cancer and spend a lot of time on the treatments, then come home to do all the extra chores, sometimes very tired and feeling somwhat sick from chemo. I still get orders and do a craft market at the end of the month. Don't always get time to do the things that I want, but with the time I have I love my embroidery and look forward to do it. Luckily I can jiggle my own time and pace. Please be patient with yourself, as you work long hours and try to fit some "me" time in for your sewing. Good luck and look forward for the day that you can finally have your own time to spend on what YOU would like.****

Rita, don't be too hard on yourself, you are working tons of hours! When I was teaching and away from home I was lucky to have enough time to do even tiny projects, even complete some! I work at home now, so I sneak in and try to allow myself some pleasure time in my sewing room. I still don't manage my time well since I am at home and have so many interruptions. Just do what you can enjoy, keep your projects simple for now, and dream that "someday" you'll get to complete more projects :-)

Be prepared. If you have 15 minutes, make them count. Know ahead what you want to do and then do it. When I worked, I would do things on my lunch time to prepare what I could do in the evenings. Keep everything picked up and straight so you know exactly where your "things" are and your time will be spent wisely. Betty

When I was working I just did not have the time or inclination to sew. It has only been since I retired 10 years ago that I got back to the thing I love - sewing.

Finding Time is always a challenge when you work full time. As a middle school librarian I am at school from 9 to 4. I have found that my sewing and embroidery is therapy for me. Having dealt with some very tragic family issues about 15 years ago I needed some way to release my feelings instead of bottling them up. So I came back to my sewing and crafts, just a little at a time. Now I sew from 5:30 am to 7:30 am and then on days when my husband takes his turn making dinner I sew from 4:30 to 6:00. Kids are grown so no more bleachers to sit on for sports events. Find time for yourself dear cutie. Cindy B.

"Wecome to the Club" I would say. I work officially from Mon to Friday. But 'cos I belong to the IT (computer departement) I'm on duty every 4 weeks (that is day & night for one week); Night then the systems sometimes send mails if something goes wrong, Day means after office hours untill shops closed and nightrun processes have ended. Besides I always say that I have a "second job"; named Housewife.
You come home, have to start cooking, cleaning up the kitchen, feed the animals (cat & 2 rabbits), sometimes help my daughter with her studies, clean the house, buy food, washing, ironing,....In the summer fix the garden,... plenty of things I can add to this list. So for me also only Sunday is left, on which sometimes I do need to visit my father or my mother-in-law (who gave me the sewing machine), and study some Spanish. So not soo much time to sew. Somtimes I feel unhappy about it, But well that's life. Just have to enjoy the moments I have. And I would say the same to you ! PLAN SOME TIME AND ENJOY IT !

First of all, you have to schedule time for yourself. When you do that, you will probably find more time for yourself than most people who have all day to themselves. Schedule in 15 minutes per day. It will bring you enormous amounts of joy and before long, you will be able to stand back and admire your works of art too!!

That is quite right - I seemed to be able to fit in nearly as much sewing when I worked full time as I di now I'm retired!

Figure out a block of time 10 - 20 - 30 minutes that is just for sewing and crafting. Make a plan of what you want to do and what can be done in that time. Like one block of time you can find your design, the next block you can hoop your fabric and pick out the threads, and the third block of time it can get stitched out. Being organized helps and I don't start something until the last one is cleaned up since I have moved into the warmer living room area. If your family bothers you tell them your on craft time and have to wait a few moments or figure it out for themselves. I can do a few things just while dinner is cooking and have to stop when my family goes to bed. I could sew all night long while in the basement and not bother anyone but winter is here and it got too cold. I atch very little television and when I do usually have something in my hands. Good luck finding your time. If you have little people it is even more difficult to find that time but I would get mine busy doing something and slip away to sew. Since you are trying to quilt and I don't know your pattern I would definitely choose a quilt pattern that could be done in easy sections.

Plan to be ready to sew something even if it is for 15 minutes at a time.

Rita, you work alot of hours - you can't expect to come home and work in your embroidery/sewing room the same amount of hours.

There are a few of us - that are in the home alot of hours - myself - because I can't seem to get my husband out of the house and at this time - I can't leave him for long periods of time - so I have to do my errands out of the house in spurts - a little here and a little there - so I have hours and hours where he is watching TV while snoring up a storm - I can't seem to get any peace for myself - so I close my embroidery door and stitch up a few things - there are hours of time that can slip away in no time - when you don't get any interruptions - before when he worked - at least the last six months of it - he had my car - his was in the repair shop for that time - I got used to spending many hours building my inventory up - so that is my work - like you - I work - but mine is my embroidery. Hehehe!

I haven't gotten anything done lately. Hubby retired 2 years ago and I decided I wouldn't work again either but then cancer has kept me from doing that anyway. I cleaned offices and a preschool and college classrooms, that is a lot of on your feet and moving when you are dealing with this. Problem is I just can't seem to get back to stitching, we are always headed off to do something.
