Hello Cuties,

Question Please:
Does anyone know of a design to make blank english cotton lace?or what design could be used for this purpose. Thanks.
I wish to use 6x10 hoop and make a long strand of english cotton lace to embellish
for the bottom border of a jacket.
Thanks

If you go to the Home Page link below and in the upper right corner there is a search box.
In the search box type in Tulle Lace Edging.

That will take you to a page that has a list of several tulle edging sets to go to.

These Tulle edging designs are stitched on Wedding Tulle which is a fine poly netting - meaning small holes in the netting and is a fairly soft netting.
You can usually purchase this type of poly tulle in the wedding section of stores like Michaels or other craft stores and it comes on a role and in several colors. Some fabric stores may sell it too.

Maybe I can find some wedding tulle because the other stuff is way to scratchy for me to use in clothing. I think I have a blouse with very soft netting that might be poly-have to check.
Its certainly cheaper. LOL

Well I found some FSL Tulle Edging designs for you at BarginEmbrstore Website.
Here is the first link and when you get on the page there is in red print a tutorial that you can click on that shows how to stich the designs on tulle.
Hope this link works.

Thats the idea but instead of poly tulle on cotton tulle/net. I've got some tulle ones I think but will have to double check. I get their e-notices and usually get the specials.

Eastwitch,
Thanks for all your valuable tips and links. Very helpful.

Here are some samples of FSL designs that could be used for Clothes or table linens.

On the Threadsnscissors website link (second one listed)click on each set to see all the designs for each.

Any battnerberg type lace edge would resemble the netting more than a regular FSL edging as they are more open.

I don't think you will find a design for FSL plain netting anywhere. You would have to buy the netting fabric.

The only other thing I could suggest is to contact one of these digitzers and ask them to design a very open, plain FSL or Battenberg Lace design set that one could add their own designs on top of.

It really is cool. I have something similar on a pricey jacket and loved it so much I thought of making more of them.

Aurifil 50 weight 2 ply cotton thread is another high quality cotton thread that can be used for FSLace.

Thank you. I heard about this thread but will have to get some. I bought some quilting cotton thread from connecting threads on 5000 cones for fsl cotton angels. Maybe it will work.

bumblebee by bumblebee 17 Oct 2011

Ah I see its 50/3 satin finish. I only see 2 plys or 2 threads intertwined.
I think I may want a 60 wt for this. I'll
have to experiment.

eastwitch2 by eastwitch2 17 Oct 2011

60 weight is a finer thread and will give lace a fine look. Experiment and see what you like best.
let us know how you do!

I mean actually make the cotton lace fabric on the embroidery machine without any designs just like buying it but less
pricey and at the size one needs for a project. Just had that idea floating in my head.

Here is a version of what I mean. Its blank and has no design so you can add your own embroidery designs.

Below is the Direct Link to the cotton netting on My Embroidery Haven Website which is listed under Fabric on the website.

You could email Marie from the website and ask about the edging designs for the cotton netting.

Maie at My Embroidery Haven website may sell the cotton netting and FSL edging designs too.

The netting would be under supplies on her website I think and the FSL Designs will be under the FSLace section.

Link to her website is below.

Most Free standing lace border or edging designs that are digitized for 40 weight embroidery thread could be done in a good quality 50 or 60 weight Cotton thread for this purpose.

You can use any straight FSL Border or Edging design such as lace edging/borders for Doilies.

Just look under Free Standing Lace on the different websites.

Perhaps try looking at Stitch Delight, Sue Box, Criswell K-Lace, Threadsnscissors, Bargainembstore, Dainty Stitches websites as they all have FSL Edgings for Doilies and othe items.

For a continuous border to fit around a jacket bottom you may have to stitch several lengths or sections of a FSL border/edging design and stitch the ends of the sections together with a zig zag stitch or satin stitch to join them into one long length to fit around the jacket bottom.

Below are serveral links to websites that offer FSL Edging designs.

Thanks for the idea of 50-60 weight to keep it light and not to heavy.

eastwitch2 by eastwitch2 17 Oct 2011

If you use a regular FSLace edging design that is digitzed for 40 weight embroidery thread then you would have to use a 2 ply 50 or 6o weight cotton thread. A 3 ply cotton thread is too heavy for FSLace embroidery.
Superior threads makes a 2ply, 50 weight Cotton thread named Masterpiece Cotton thread. It is very smooth and gives off very little lint when you stitch with it.
You can buy it in large cones 3000 yards or even 20,000 yards.
They are changing over to a 3 ply in the Masterpiece but still have the 2ply Masterpiece cotton thread avasilable for a while so if you buy it make sure to get the 2 ply.

You want to use a high quality cotton thread that will not give off very much lint or you will constantly have to clean the bobbin area out of lint.

Another high quality Cotton 2 ply 50 weight thread is Aurifill 50 weight cotton.

You wnat to use a high quality 2ply 50 or 60 weight thread for FSL as it will give off less lint in the bobbin area.
3ply cotton is too heavy for FSL designs.

eastwitch2 by eastwitch2 17 Oct 2011

You have to check on Superior threads website as they are switching over to 3ply Masterpiece Cotton thread and it may be too heavy for FSL or you may have to adjust your thread tensions to use it for FSL designs. They still have 2 ply for a while.

Thanks but its english cotton lace specifically I'm looking for but I'll check and see if maybe something similar or if they have it. I suppose continous lace would be good too! I wish I had a sample of this stuff.

I saw these about a week ago. I do know that american lace is close by.

I don't think so- I think the english ladys no what I mean. I've never purchased any but there was a designer who did designs to be placed on english cotton lace- it looked to me like an open net but I can't remember who it was or where.
