Hi, cuties :)

I decided to ask something... 'cos I really need to hear advice of experienced people...

I'm preparing to cross stitch a black and white portrait. I just want to be more or less sure how many colours I should use. Should I buy all shades of black, white and grey? or ecru... :/ I'm sure b&w portrait is a good idea, but I don't want to make mistake with the colours. The pattern I have doesn't state it clear how many... But I suppose I better 'follow' every shadow so it would look realistic...?

Any advice?

Thank you :)

Cross stitch by hand? Is the chart in symols or colour? I think you will need a range of shades from black to white. It should look stunning when you have finished. Have you thought of using sepia shades? That gives a nice soft look to the protrait.

thanks for replying. It's a chart I "generated" myself... And I'm a little worried because it might be easy to get confused ,as the difference between shades of same colour can be subtle... So I'd like to use minimum of colours. And I wanted to know if any1 here ever did b&w portraits... :}
