OK, I'll own up, the reason for my sore hip. Stupidity! I bought MIL (who lives with us) a walker on wheels, (SUPPOSEDLY) to make it easier when I take her shopping (to the mall). So when it came time to put it in the car for our first adventure, it wouldn't fit in the boot (trunk) of either of our cars. I pulled, I pushed, I yanked, I shoved, I dropped down seats, removed luggage racks, twisted every which way & finally, after 20 minutes struggle, my 5'2" frame managed to manipulate it into the car. Was it worth the pinched nerves, strained muscles & torn ligaments? Just look at the smile on her face! My sister and i couldn't keep up with her, she took off like a rocket and you'd have thought she'd always used it. Now it may not look that large but when you know that MIL is only 5' it gives you an idea just how large the walker actually is and how i hurt my hip. hugs n roses to you all. M

What a saint you are! It's delightful to see how happy you made MIL. I hope that your hip feels better soon.

Meg, I would definetely say it was worth it. Did anyone else notice the signs in the background? One above the other on left side, they say: "CRY" and "LAUGH". Which will it be Meg?!!?!?! *4U ><>

Oh yes! We'll probably go out again tomorrow and I'll do as Marji suggests and find something to hold the walker closed when it's folded. hugs n roses, M

Aha, Meg, truth will out!! So sorry you hurt yourself, but just look at her face! My late 2nd DH Richard was in a wheelchair a lot, having lost a leg, and I had to schlep the thing in & out of the Subaru Outback all the time. Luckily it fit with no trouble. If it broke my arms I would have done it, to give him that freedom! Couldn't keep up with the rascal when he started rolling! Fond memories. Could you make a velcro strap to hold the thing closed so you wouldn't have to deal with it popping open when you're trying to move it? Many hugs for you, dear dear one! Marji

Yes wheelchairs are REALLY heavy. My Dad (had polio) was in a wheelchair & I used to lift it up onto the luggage rack on my car roof, but that was 30 years ago when i was fit & strong. LOL! And boy no-one ever offers to help do they? but I think our love gives us the strength to do such things for our Beloveds, anything, no matter what it takes, to give them pleasure. God bless you Marji, & so sorry your Richard is no longer with you. Big hugs n Roses, M

You know meganne, we don't miss ANYTHING in pictures. The 2 words behind your MIL fits perfectly with the situation you had with the walker!! And look at the small fur-baby watching over your MIL!!!! ADORABLE!!!

Good Heavens! I hadn't even noticed! We were outside the pet shop and the fur-baby was a fox-terrier puppy. Yes I guess those words say it all, we laughed a lot that day and i was crying the next. ROFLOL! hugs n roses, M

Meganne, I love your story, sorry about all your aches and pain, but look at that face!!!! She is loving that moment!!! My only suggestion for you is next time, after the struggles of getting the walker to the mall, you sit on the seat and let her push you around on it. HAHA Great picture. sue

Yes I suggested that to her, and maybe we could get a trailer and she could tow my sister in that too. ROFLMBO! We had a fabulous day, lots of laughs i don't think i'll ever forget watching her "take-off" up the first walkway and I do mean uphill. I went to get my phone-camera out to take her pic and when my sis and i looked up she was already 150' up the aisle. such a hoot! hugs n roses, M

Meg, dear one - now the truth comes out - I do understand - my Mother has two walkers - one that is big like this - that is so stable that it is the one that needs to be used all the time - another that is light weight and folds very easy. It is the one that I take with us - when we go someowhere - but I think that the bigger one is the one that she needs and it is so sturdy that I think the struggle for me - is minor to the independance and stability it gives her! Hugs and roses to you.

Oh Shirlene, i'm not complaining, we had such a great day, so many laughs & Dulcie had a ball. She's as sharp as a tack, though forgetful, but she loves a joke. The walker really gave her independence but she always walks so fast whereas my sister, who has OsteoArthritis & degenerative spine disorder & I (with my crook knees) don't walk as easily so we couldn't keep up with her LOL! And because Mum is deaf she wouldn't hear us when we stopped to window shop and we'd have to keep running (in our fashion) to catch her up to stop her. It was a great, fun day plus she had her own seat when she wanted to rest. Hugs n Roses, M

Yes, I understand that you were not complaining - I told my Mother - whatever you want - I will take - believe me - it is easier to have her steady than to worry about how long it takes to get her there. Hehehe! I can just see you three now - I would be just like your and your sister - Hehehe! My Mother can't walk fast - because of another condition, but I think it is wonderful that Dulcie had a ball - she is a great inspiration.

Hey Meganne, mother has a similar walker but the basket is on with velcro, so I just take it off and it folds up easily for the back seat - does the basket not come off MIL's ??? *4U for being such a good friend...

Oh yes, the basket lifts out, it's the rest of it that doesn't 'lift' so easily and it's too large for our cars. Far too big for my back seat, unless i leave my sister behind that is. LOL! I might have fitted it in DH's car boot, but for the fact that he had this gigantic tool box in there and i couldn't even budge that, let alone lift it out. LOL!:-} hugs n roses, M

It's always a struggle when you want them out of the way. My father's is supposed to fold down easily, but it has cost me lots of nails. Hugs and a flower.

Yes this one folds easily enough but as soon as you lift it, it unfolds???!!! Such a battle i had i've left it in the car, which i had to convert to accomodate it, thankfully it's a hatchback. hugs n roses, M

I know what you mean! Although, I can get my mum's into the boot or on the back seat, it seems so heavy & awkward. Truth is its me that is awkward as I have a complete bad spine. My M would be lost without hers & gives her some independence. She will be 88 in July & we have been very lucky to have her this long after diagnosis in April 06 with cardio-myophathy. It is wonderful to see your MIL so happy. Just enjoy every day with her! +1*4U.

Yes isn't it the pits? chronic arthritis is my biggest problem but i seem not to be as strong as I used to be. LOL! MIL is 89 on May 28th & has no health issues other than she hates doing anything or going anywhere so this is encouragement to get her up and moving. :-) roses for you, M

Meganne, This brings back soooo many memories . . . and the pic. . . . well I know it's not true but, I see a very dear familiar face. Your description of events is so, so familiar & brings a lump to my throat. Oh dear, I'll say no more.

I understand. Our memories may haunt us at times but they can also remind us of some funny events and should always be welcomed for bringing our departed loved ones closer to us, even if only for an little while. I like to think that my departed loved ones sense, or know, every time I think about one of them and that brings me the comfort to cope with their loss. hugs n roses, M
