Oklahoma is an Indian term meaning "land of red people". In 1889 a massive land grab by white settlers. The Indians lost most of their treaty rights. The settlers who raced out before the gun shot were called "Sooners". Now the nickname applies to all Oklahomans. (My great grandparents were there. I have a picture of them in front of a tent. Found it doing genealogy). Tulsa, has been called the "oil capital of the world". Oil, natural gas, cattle and wheat are part of their economy.
