from a Cutie asking me to email her the design. The message was very polite. The Cutie has been here a while and I feel probably does know that these designs are copywrited. I just dont know how to answer the message and feel it would be rude to ignore this Cutie.

What do I do????.....I dont want to upset this Cutie either.
Thank You for your time

well the link of these designs is given so I think you did just okay! perhaps she thought it were your own digitized designs.and now it's clear where to find and how to get them.

Thank you all for your wonderful advice.
I have just replied to the Cutie in question stating that it is illegal to email designs to others and giving a link to where it can be purchased. I also told the Cutie that it was a beautiful design and well worth doing, and wished them well.
I did notice that the Cutie had been on this site today so hopefully they may have seen this post.
Thanks again everyone, I felt much better about the situation after reading your great advice.
Flowers for all!!! ***

I think it is okay to say that the design is not yours to share, but it can be found at... or something like that.

Besides all the advice below, you could advise her that there are several free heart alphas available, and dozens of freebie heart frames, that she could download and use to create the same effect herself.

She only needs to Google, "Heart alphabet embroidery design" or "Heart frame alphabet design"

Claws and paws has some lovely heart frames, really, really, inexpensive.

I just counted my freebie heart frames and found I have 34 that would be suitable to use for something like this.

In this way you would be helping her and she definitely could not be upset if you do that.
Hugs and roses, Meganne

If she has been on this site for any time, she should know the rules, but take the high road and do what has already been stated....if she doesn't like it she will just have to get over it.....

I think it lessons the negativity in the response if you answer generally something like this: To those who would like the design, it can be found at ...... If I had digitized it myself, I'd be happy to share it, but it's a copyrighted design. That shouldn't upset anyone :-)

This is a nice way to say you don't give out the free designs that you have been given

Marley, I'm sure by now this person has seen this post, but I think you probably should have just answered her with a link to the website and let her know that what she is requesting is not legal. Being here a while doesn't necessarily mean she has read all the post on the copyrights of designs. You are a wonderful CUTIE and I'm sure she will totally understand if you don't send it to her. :)

I think you did the right thing. Answering here so they can see without naming names thus no one gets hurt. Wait for them to read this one.Or you can send them a note saying you are not comfortable sending a copyrited design and leave it at that. Suzanne

Shirlene gave the link to the site you got it from in a comment to your post. I would repeat the link in your answer and tell her the terms of use prohibit 'sharing' designs, copy the conditions to show your only following the rules

quote

Terms of Use
All designs have been digitised by me from either my own artwork or purchased clipart. You may stitch these designs on items to be sold, however THE DESIGNS THEMSELVES CANNOT BE RE-SOLD, SHARED OR TRADED. You may not alter my designs and call them your own or sell the altered designs. Many, many hours of work go into digitising these designs - please respect my work.

I am new to this site. I agree just explain the copywrite, and then tell her how she can get the design herself. Perhaps she thought it was your design.

Lique's answer is a good one. Some poeple just don't know it is unlawful to share copyrighted designs.

just be honest, tell her where you got the design from so where she can get it. There will alway be persons who will try to get it. good luck. you can put it in a private message so not everybody will read it, Yvonne

Personally, I would just politely answer back, to say that the designs are under copywrite and that you therefore will not be able to share.

by lique 22 Jan 2011

Just explain that you are unable to do this as the design is copy writed and that you would be breaking the law. Any reasonable person will understand this. It might be that this person thought it was one of your own designs.
