This came at a great time. I was wanting to make a towel for my neighbor that takes care of our mail when away. So I thought I would try it. This was my first applique! It was easier than I anticipated. I don't have applique scissors so that part was difficult, therefore I had one area that didn't get quite get stitched over. If doing it again I would use the rust color for the lettering. The yellow fabric has various shades in it.

I was afraid also. Looked like too much work. It did take a lot time triming. But if you don't get it close the edges show. It takes more time because of the process.

mops by mops 15 Jan 2011

I always use wss under the applique, that way it's easier to cut back the material without damaging the towel (or fleece or whatever).

clawton by clawton 15 Jan 2011

Great idea! Thank you. I will have to try that. Yes, I had to be very careful not to get the sharp point caught in the fabric below.

The design is from here, Cute Emb. It was the freebie today and I think yesterday. Just click on the applique tab and you will see it. One of the members posted a challenge and this is the design that was choosen for it. Now and then there is a project suggested and members volunteer to participate.
